I found this on an auction site. I think the price is about 750 x the price to produce these. indiana-b.hibid.com/lot/108714175/vintage-ordnance-fp-45-liberator--45-acp-pistolI remember seeing an article about weapons the Afgans used against the Russion troops in that war. A picture showed a group around a Russion vehicle. A couple of them had muzzle loading shotguns. They were to kill a Russion, take his guns and pass the ML on to another fighter.

Ok so I skimmed through the description, how is this tied to Indiana? Sorry if I missed something glaringly obvious.

Ahhhh I see, I read the Dayton, Ohio part and figured they were assembled there. Sorry I was grilling burgers and trying to read that at the same time. My fault.

I’ve read about that gun and love the history and Indiana connection. Thanks for jogging my memory!

No problem. It is easy to miss things on phones.
It still amazes me still when I see the production and design work done in WW2. Think of all that had to be done to produce simple items like this pistol. No CAD-CAM to design, no calculators. Concept Design Prototype Design stamping dies Make dies Stamp parts Assemble parts Package and ship And all this being done while the rest of the country is busy making all of the other equipment and supplies to fight an all out war.

My dad retired from Guide. Wife worked there for 7 years. Now it is a grass field.
Pretty sure a few other guys on here retired from that plant too.

Sold for $1700.00!
It would be a great addition to a WW2 collection.

Guide's release into the White River was bad news...but maybe the best thing to have happened to the river in a long time. The money that went into cleaning up the river did more than just cleanup that nasties in the sediment from that release.
