I used to drink a lot of Blatz out of their wide mouth bottles. Dad's beer of choice in my youth. We solved a lot of the world's problems over a couple of Blatz and a factory second cigar. The cheapest beer I drank was Buckhorn. I don't remember the exact price but it was less than $2 a case. It was aproaching sell by date and a little grocery store was clearancing it out. Not too bad a beer. Is Blatz even still produced? I had completely forgotten about it.

I'm from Milwaukee and I ought to know: It's draft brewed Blatz beer, wherever you go. Smoother and fresher, less filling that's clear, Blatz is Milwaukee's finest beer.

I do not remember the last time I saw a Blatz in a store. Probably like a lot of things the memory was better than the beer.

Noticed no mention of a Long Island ice tea. Such a wide variety of how they are made and the taste, but if I find a good one it is hard to beat.

A few years back I brewed 50 gallons of a Black IPA using California ale yeast. This yeast stops eating around 10-15% alcohol. The stock I used at the time was 15-17% A friend and I went down to Buffalo Trace Bourbon and bought an empty barrel. The lineman asked what was up so he left around 4 gallons in the barrel. At least that is what he told us. You could hear it slush around. A super nice guy. Well I aged the Black IPA for 3 months in the barrel. Man was it good and everyone loved it. Most wicked beer I every brewed. The only problem was that the woman loved it a lot and one bottle was to much for them to handle. Two bottles was over the top. Guys maybe two or three. I called it "Boot" beer. I did 5 10 gallon brews to make that much. It took me all day to brew the 50 gallons. Most I ever homebrewed at one time. Not sure what the alcohol level was, but well over 25%. My guess was around 30% Of the three months I added more wort (sugar) and a little turbo yeast each month. Turbo yeast is made to make moonshine. So the bourbon was 45% and my beer around 15% plus the turbo moonshine adder. I sipped on that beer for over a year. I need to call my friend and do this one more time. Here is Stone Brewery Black IPA. This is my favorite beer style. www.stonebrewing.com/beer/small-batch-series/stygian-descentwww.whitelabs.com/yeast-single?id=101&type=YEAST

Drink of choice non alcoholic is coffee all day long, even just before I go to bed but in between that is Yuengling beer or a Shiner bock. Whiskey that I prefer is good old Jim Beam.

OK I have a winner for the new low. Years ago,Kroger used to sell beer under their Cost Cutter brand. A plain yellow can that simply said "BEER". If you could drink that, you could drink ANYTHING.
For the runner-up, remember Red,White and Blue? Absolutely putrid.
For the real old timers, Drewry's, Falstaff, Weidemann's,

Now it's coffee and sweet tea. Used to drink PBR before it was legal to buy Coors light. Crown and coke was my mix drink. For the really old timers dad would listen to the Reds and drink Hudepohl...

This was pre-Pappy hysteria. We made 50g and aged it in a Pappy barrel for six months. It was very good, but not great. I think it was exposed to too much oxygen. I was taught by the two most decorated (competition success) home brewers in the area. We really made some excellent beers that were as good as or better than the micros were putting out. The best we ever made was a smoked porter brewed on New Years Day 2005. I smoked the grain on a Big Green Egg with mesquite chips. People in the home brew club almost fought over it. A local veterinarian got a bottle somehow and then tried to hire us to make a batch for him. We tried several times to replicate the original batch, and got close, but never did make another one as good.

When you fill the barrel or what ever beer goes into is to pre fill with CO2. CO2 is heavier than air and will go to the bottom. Fill the container from the bottom and the CO2 pushes the air out the top.

Coors…
In the late sixties and early seventies a bunch of us made yearly bow hunting trips to Colorado. Even though Coors cold brewed and says the Coors should be kept cold in the store we bought cases upon cases of it and brought it back to Southern Indiana.
