Based on what I have seen available the 350 legend or the 6.5 CM seem to be the most widly available. Anything 20 gauge not so much.
I am old enough to remember when Jack O'Conner wrote for Outdoor Life and my older brothers shared a subscription for it. His wife used the 7x57 Mauser all over the world on all kinds of game. The 7-08 is just a little hotter. A reloader could make some lighter loads easy enough. My brother has a 7x57 Ruger and it is pleasant to shoot, very accurate and a deer killing machine.
Again if you reload the 44mag is a good choice. You can load 44 Special or download 44Mag for less recoil.

The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards a youth 20g. It would work well for the close shots on our property and it would have sentimental value to her. Whenever we discuss guns she brings up her old youth 20g and talks about how well it fit her. Her ex took it in the divorce and won't give it back to her. I think it would mean a lot to her if I found one to replace it. She gets one then! Merry Christmas!

My standard reply fits here as well.
Muzzleloader. You can adjust the powder charge to the person's comfort level and it doubles the available time in the woods.

I think it would mean a lot to her if I found one to replace it. For that reason I would get the 20ga, an exact copy of what she had, (make) but just with a stock that fits her. You can always get a different rifle if she starts to need more range deer hunting.

Or ,I you can find one, a savage in 7.62x39. They make them and there are factory hunting loads for it. Good round for places were you not going over 300 yards.

Howa mini or AR in 6.5 Grendel would be a great gun and caliber for the needs as well.

25-06 to me is like shooting a 22 magnum. No kick. Every buck I’ve shot with it has gone maybe 20 yards. My grandkids will train with this round.

I didn't find her a mossberg like I was wanting. I was able to round up a CVA Scout .243 and a youth 20g semi auto Weatherby. She loved them. She checked the scope out on a doe in my parents yard. Both guns fit her small frame nicely. I'm still on a search for her a mossberg with a slug barrel. Might be a good birthday present idea.

Based on the above, the .350 legend would be a good choice for her to try. It's made to handle the very situations you mentioned above and has replaced the slug gun for many people that hunt in states that require slug guns or straight wall cartridges like the .44 mag, .450 bushmaster, etc. Good luck with your decision. Thanks. A .44 mag. is another option I haven't considered. It will probably come down to what I can find in a youth/compact size before Christmas. My 110 pound wife can shoot my single shot 44 mag H&R Handi rifle without any tears flowing. They are a pretty good 0 to 150 yard deer killer. Usually easy to find ammo for. I think H&R no longer makes the Handi rifles, but they made a million of them in many calibers.

We have that Weatherby 20 ga, and I would buy it again. My kids as young as 11 have handled it very well.

I didn't see .308 mentioned, but I like mine a lot. I don't see much difference in felt recoil between it and my .243. And, there are reduced recoil rounds by Hornady and perhaps other ammo manufacturers.

A few months late but I bought a mossberg youth 20g. with the slug barrel from a Walmart in KY. It's drilled and tapped for a scope. It's exactly like the one she used to have. It will be a great deer gun for her. I need to quiet down the mossberg rattle though.
