It's been a doozy of a day! Just in from an emergency work run, though I'm actually "off" today thru Sunday! Oh well! At least I got to start the day with a bang! My grandson and I were on the road by 4 am. We knew it would get windy by mid morning and we hoped for something to move early. He's had the itchy trigger on the new Savage Axis, 6.5 Creedmoor since the opener. We locked into the 2 man stand a half hour early and watched a small silhouette of a deer some 100 yards away for 20 minutes until it trotted off to our west. Around 7:25 he whispers, "Grandpa, there's a buck!" Sure enough, I range him at the east woods edge, 159 yards! Then he steps broadside. "I got him Grandpa! Heart shot! I can take him!" I whoa him! This goes on for a few minutes and finally he closes in on us! I get the iPhone and start some video! Bam! He drills him at 88 yards! Ended up with a neat lil half minute video but I've no clue how to post that here! Oh, great, there goes my work phone again so I'll add details later... Meantime a pic:

Looks like a perfect shot!
The face on that buck looks very dark, I've not seen that before.

Congrats to the young man!
Is that trebark camo from the early 80's in that pic? I owned some of that myself back in the day.

Good job Grandpa. When he's old enough to have a grandson and hopely still likes to hunt, he might be enclined to take him out in the woods and and tell him the story that we just read about.

Not the best video. But it is what it is. I had to pause him from squeezing the trigger until I could get the iPhone ready! A videographer, I AM NOT! Here's the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QbY8-mp7vM

It'some 30+ years old and we're pretty sure I got it from whitetail1 way back when! The jacket pockets are all frayed and some of the lining is quite compromised but he insists on wearing it just because he thinks it has a cool factor!
