I can remember through different periods of my life when the inflation rate had risen higher than normal and people would freak out about it. Through those times, I never really "felt" the effects of said inflation. Maybe it was because I was younger and less responsibilities, i don't know. What I do know is that this year, the inflation rate is sitting somewhere around the 5.4% over the last 5-6 months and October posted an inflation rate of 6.1% according to tradingeconomics.com. This is the highest rates we have seen in 13 years. Let me say this: I can "feel" the effects of this inflation. My bank account is lower than normal, I'm having to keep an eye on my money more, and all the while, I'm making more money than I ever have.
Have any of you been feeling the effects of inflation like never before?
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Matthew 6:25-26

Since I'm now a senior, but still working the inflation is just a nuisance. I'm a little cheap and tight and don't like paying more for the same or less than the past. I don't have the bill pressure as I did early in life. I'm sure the young families and fix income couples are feeling it hard. 6% is a lot and some items up to 30%.

The pumps is about the only place ive noticed it. We still have so much meat packed away pfrom the early days of the pandemic that food prices haven't really hit us yet.

Gas prices are definitely ridiculous, but we have also seen it with food prices, as well as home heating prices. Our house is heated with liquid propane. It is up almost 80%. All of this coupled together is going to cause some huge issues for the average person across this country. People think we're in rough times now... it's going to get much, much worse. Just trying to prepare for my family to handle everything well, but it is definitely unnerving seeing what is going on.

I’ve got a 1000 gallon tank so I make It all winter But I’ve got a lp furnace with a add on heat pump I’ll run that down to about 30 degrees then my furnace takes over and heats. Helps on lp usage but I still have a unit heater in the garage and barn but normally they are set low just enough to keep either one from freezing

Matthew 6:25-26 They said today highest it’s been in 30 years I just topped off for $1.94 and that is only because I have a "farmer's price" from the company. The other LP provider in the area is at $2.99 right now.

I’ve got a 1000 gallon tank and fill every summer. Think mine was $1.10 or so this year in May.

Also, one of the local private natural gas company came out a few months ago and said that they will be raising their natural gas rates by 17% across the board. Unless very strong course correction happens immediately, this whole country is going to implode. Meanwhile, the idiots in the capital are spending more of our money than ever before. I'm so sick of everything right now.

Wood furnace pays for itself in a year if you have access to wood. We haven't spent a dime on wood. Got so bad we turn people down wanting us to take wood free

The 2 edges of inflation. 1 group will say we have never lived in a more prosperous times. And others will say we are in a downward spiral.
My grandfather in law used to complain big time about that. Granted he retired at 60 and lived to 104...he had seen the buying power of the USD shrink significantly.
At the same time we feel good about our assessed home values or retirement savings as they skyrocket. But it is a shell game.
We will all be millionaires and on food stamps before long.

My wife and I go shopping for extra canned goods for the church food pantry for the month of Nov and Dec. Not only are most stores limiting to just 4 cans of the same item the prices have more than tripled from last year. We have to make several trips to get the quantity the we need too help supply the shelves.

16 years ago I worked at McDonald’s and a double cheeseburger was $1.
Then they added the Mc double, which was a dollar. That raised the double cb to around $1.39.
Now a McDouble is 1.39, and I believe the double cb is over $2.
In 16 years the price of a double cheeseburger has more than doubled ....
I also remember a Big Mac meal was $5 even. Now a Big Mac sandwich with no fries or drink is $3.99.
Every time I go to McDonald’s nowadays , I want to throw things.

I heard that the way they figure inflation has changed a number of times in the past 30 years. Why doesn't the government add food and energy into the calculations for what inflation really is? Diesel, depending on where you are, has almost doubled in price from a year ago. Food is more $$. Lumber has come down but it still isn't to the price it was pre pandemic.
So, can anybody tell me what the real inflation numbers are vs 12 months ago INCLUDING energy, food and whatever else we have to purchase that is NOT included in the government smoke and mirrors figures?
