I make a post like this each year, so here it goes for 2021!
After having success with my Ruger Super Redhawk in 10mm last year, I think I will try the same gun in .41 magnum this year.
I have been toting a .41mag on and off for years and years and still haven't fired one at a deer.
Maybe this will be my year?
I usually keep a 4 5/8" Blackhawk in .41mag on my side during gun, but it hasn't seen action yet either.
Who else is ready to deploy a legal handgun to take a good shot at a nice buck or doe in gun season?
I will keep you all posted on how my handgun hunting unfolds this year of course...

I once got a pretty nice buck many years ago with my Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44mag It’s been so long ago I can’t really remember,I think late 80’s or early 90’s.Anyway I haven’t hunted with it since. It might be enjoyable to try that again with the same gun, thanks for reminding me.

Nope. Been there done that. Probably hunted 10 years straight handguns. I’ll stick to my rifles now.

Glad you brought the topic up again this year, jajwrigh! You’re bringing back some good memories Through the years I’ve taken deer with various handguns. First was with my Ruger Super Redhawk 9.5, 44Mag. I ended up trading that hand cannon for my Pointer, Chief Cotton (hence High Cotton). Also taken deer with my Ruger GP100, 357. And my Ruger Vaquero, 45 Colt. And my Glock 23 Gen 4, 40 S&W.
So this year I’m hoping to have success with the Kimber Rapide and my hand loaded 10mm!

Sorry. Wasn’t trying to sound like a jerk or a downer. Anyways. I’ve killed several deer with a 10” Dan Wesson .44 mag. A T/C super 14 in .357 maximum (which I like better than the .44== the cartridge at least) I started realizing I like the scope closer to my eyes so I went to a shotgun (Rem 11/87 with a cantilever bbl) and now on to my rifles. If it was legal I’d really like to shoot a deer with my Colt Defender in .45 I know it could do it but gotta keep legal.

I will be using my buddy's Springfield Saint Victor pistol (7in) in 300 BO topped with a Viper 1-6 in Illinois. At zero it gave nice little groups at 100m so I am looking forward to it. Given the Illinois rules and how nicely that little joker I stepped up my game and ordered one of these guys.... cmmg.com/banshee-200-pistol-mk3-308-winThe only bad thing is to get my pro deal I had to go through the factory and it doesn't look like I will have until first of the year or so. I plan on getting it setup and ready for next year. I believe I will have a 300m pistol

I might take my .44 mag Taurus out this season. I think I've killed 3 with it so far. No scope.

I went out for a range session today with my Glock 20 (10mm) and my Ruger Super Redhawk in .41 mag. The Glock and I missed a doe last year (more than once) at 30 yards and I had no idea how I missed her. Today, I figured it out. Using the same ammo, it was printing 12" low at 15 yards! I was using a tripod to too. At 25 yards it was aweful and I did not like have to compensate for the non adjustable sights. I generally shoot the gun really well. I have never seen ammo vary that much with a handgun at that short distance. I popped in range ammo that I bought from Rural King and I was tearing it up! I was even hitting 6" steel plates at 40 yards off hand. Anyways, I won't be hunting with it again until I find hunting ammo that the gun actually likes.
The SRH was nearly dialed in last year, but I ran out of ammo and reloading components were non-existent at this same time of year. Today the rear sight only needed 3 quick adjustments and it is shooting very well at 25 yards with irons. I would be comfortable to maybe 40 yards with my tripod, but no further.
I am a better than average shot with everything that I pick up, but sighting in a handgun to hunt with is HARD, especially with irons. That is also the fun of it though too. I now have my SRH in 10mm and .41 mag dialed in and ready for action.

Yep, been dragging my 500S&W around for the last few years. Hopefully this year I'll get one in range.

Idk if I will this year or not. Depends on how my Colorado elk hunt goes. Wife bought me a new Browning last Christmas for my elk hunt. If it does get its first kill in the mtn's. It will be used here when I get back for the second week of season.

I have a 4" M&P 2.0 that I bought to hunt deer with. Underwood makes some really interesting loads for it too that should handle a deer with no problem!

Keep in mind though, I never took a deer past ~15 yards. I’m just not good enough nor confident enough at anything past 20 years or so with a handgun!

I picked up a nice used 5" 460 S&W today on a complete impulse buy. Oops... Maybe it will make a debut next year, no time for that now.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt regret on a gun impulse buy! I have regretted walking away from a possible purchase, though! That is one serious hand cannon! Is this one Stainless? Maybe they’re all Stainless?

I had the 500 in the performance center It was a beast but fun to shoot. Never killed anything with it but wish I had taken it hunting but it weighed near as much as my lightweight mountain rifle.

My son has a Ruger #1 in 460 S&W after shooting a few rounds in it,I cannot imagine using that round in a handgun.
