So what EXACTLY do they consider "peak" rut? Is that the day they are saying the most does are bred? Is that the day they are saying most does come into heat? If you listen to the world of experts, the mature bucks are "locked down" with a does for a few days before she is ready to breed. So does that make these days the height of the chasing before the actual breeding takes place? How about we just go back to the old standard idea of archery hunters need to be in the woods as much as possible starting the last week of October. Everything from then through the first week of gun season should have mature bucks on their feet and out of their minds plenty enough to make it easier for us humans to kill them. I will agree with that. I have killed bucks from October 6 through to December 22, you can’t kill him if you’re not in the woods.

The way life is running me ragged, being in the woods anytime will be the best time. Next weekend is it for helping anybody! After that, its ME time for awhile!

My deer hunting is in a rut but I don't think this thread was started to talk about me.

Be in the woods as much as possible between Halloween and November the 10 and you will be good to go. Then again the first 3 days of gun season.

Lol. What's up with Ohio Co.?? Since it's such a small county, I'd say they had a very small sample size that skewed it.

From what I have been told the timing of the rut depends on the amount of sun light reaching the ground. Down here in SW Indiana we have had a lot of sunny days lately. The leaves on the trees haven't started to turn. I have yet to see any rubs or scrapes. Looks like it's going to be late from what I see.

Happens same time every year give a day or two on either end. Weather plays a big factor of daylight movement. Too hot and all the action takes place at dark and everyone says “what rut?” Nice and cool and we’re on….. Sunlight? ? Blah…. The sun is in the same spot it was last year on this same date.

It is the duration of daylight or the length of daytime, not the amount hitting the ground.
