A day and a half away from season opener and this just happened. Not even a year old on it. What would cause it to break at this location?

That's the tough part/downside of crossbows. A lot of stress which leads to wear and tear. Hopefully a bow shop can fix you up and it didnt sustain any damage.
One thing I can promise you about crossbows. It's not IF it will break, its WHEN it will break. Of course always at the worst time.
So one word of advice, always have 2 crossbows ready to go. I have 4, but 2 loaned out kinda permanently. I would never be without a backup.
Good luck!

I have owned an Excalibur recurve crossbow since 2006 and at the end of every hunting season I totally remove my string and let the bow hang unstrung without any tension on the limbs or string to prevent any stretch or preloading on the limbs. A question for you "wheeled" crossbow users... Is it possible to remove your string for storage? Thanks, BOB

Don't feel too bad. My xbow cracked a limb on opening day. Felt sick when I seen it. Might be in the market again if customer service won't stand by it

So I’m one of the type of people that shoots his bow a few days before season to see if it is still on, which it usually is and I bragged about it to some friends the other day. I used to shoot all year but the last few years I haven’t. Anyways, opening day I took it out of its case and stepped back to 30 yds…..let one fly and it’s 10” low, no problem probably just me, next shot I should’ve been paying more attention, I noticed something in my peep sight. Figured it was the peep rotated a little (which it never does) and let it fly……..ummmm wow. What happened? My arrow barely hit the bag 10” low about 1 ft to the right. Uh oh. Grab my arrow and walk back to my bow get ready to shoot and I noticed my monkey tail string silencer resting on my peep sight (it usually sits about 4” above it.) Moved it back to normal and shot again. Dead center but 10” low. Every shot after was 10” dead centered. So I ordered new strings and cables, I guess shooting an 11 year old bow with its original string and cables finally caught me…..I’m stupid. But in the meantime I adjusted my sights and am good till it comes in then I get to do everything all over….yay.

Just a follow up. For those of you in SW indiana that need a good bow shop, Whittaker Guns in Owensboro, KY is awesome. Called Tracy Friday morning around 9:30 and he said he would try and get string and cables built in the afternoon. He called me around 3:45 and said they were done but I had a 50 min drive to get to the shop. He apologized and told me to be at the shop at 8:15 Saturday morning and he would get me set up before they opened. I was on my way back home at 9. Excellent customer service! And the price was better than anything I found online.

I've had similar experiences with Whittaker Guns, Dad had an Excalibur cable start to unravel, we called all around Evansville and no one could get a new string/cable in for 8 days. We called Whittaker's and he said he'd have the string made up and would have it ready for us when we got there. There were a few guys checking bows out when we showed up and we waited our turn before we even said a word he recognized Dad's crossbow and said "Are you the guys that called yesterday?" We said yup, he had us gixed and out the door in 20 minutes, he wanted to double check some measurements and make sure everything was A-OK before we left, otherwise we would have been out quicker. Absolutely top notch. I didn't realize you were in the area or I would have suggested going there.

You don't need a press for Mission crossbows to take the string off. You can relax the limbs enough. I don't take the string off in the off season, but do take poundage off the limbs and crank it back up in the fall.
