So I found several buckeyes in my food plot. Most were black and shriveled up, but one that was still partially buried is in pretty good shape. No buckeye trees anywhere nearby that I've been able to find.
The plot just got tilled up two weeks ago. How long can a buckeye last underground? I'm wondering how they got there.

That’s probably a squirrel bringing them there and burying them would be my guess… they do that with all other nuts

Any idea where the closet tree would be?

I'll be on the lookout from here on.

I have had a squirrel carry walnuts from my single walnut tree about 440 ' away and bury them. I watched them do it so I knew they weren't the neighbors walnuts.

Watched a squirrel carry a full size ear of field corn from as far as I could see him, the closest corn field was at least a 1/4 mile away.
