Hearing of a handful of suspected EHD cases in Switz., Ohio, Dearborn, Franklin and Ripley Counties over last 2 weeks. A guy posted a video on FB this morning of a sick deer in Switz. Co. that most likely is a EHD case. Hopefully the rainfall we received over last 3 days helps clean out some creeks and fill some ponds and help curb a major outbreak. I pulled up DNR EHD reporting page little bit ago and Franklin, Dearborn, Ripley, Switzerland all have suspected cases reported, with Franklin having the most at 41 and a positive test result back.

I just texted my brother to check his creek and swamps. He might not since it's very close to season.

Most dead deer have just been found in last 2 weeks. DNR only tests a few from a area after several are already found dead. Its not like they sample every deer that is called in and it takes several weeks to get back results. Guy this morning that posted video on Hoosier Hunting called the DNR and they were sending a CO to put deer down and get a sample off it. (At least that's what he was told.) Good friend found a 120 class dead 8 point in his creek last weekend in Ohio Co.

I understand that… I was saying your looking at last year’s map not this year’s
Big difference in numbers!
BTW…. Hearing the High Fence guys have had positive deer test… go figure!

End day there is nothing DNR can do. Once they get a couple positive tests in a area it is a moot point. I think after a few they are testing more for CWD when sick deer reports come in. (JMO) EHD will run its course and midges will be around till 1st frost.

Not really sure how there isn’t more down here. Dry as a bone, creek wasn’t running for a good couple months. It’s running now from the recent rains.

I looked at this years map before posting. Franklin has like 41 suspected cases and 2 positive cases. I don't think the DNR has tested any others in SE IN other than maybe 1 in Ripley. They don't test very many.

Had EHD pretty bad around us in 2013, found 13 dead deer on our farms. In speaking with the DNR biologist, they don't get too excited about it. It's a naturally occurring thing that was going on before most of us were aware of it and there really isn't much that can be done about it. Takes a pretty severe drought and the right conditions for it to be problematic.

It had to be over 40 years ago when I found a dead doe laying next to pond. I could not find any apparent injuries that would cause her demise. I told my good friend and hunting buddy, John Trout Jr, and about it and he said ",Its probably EHD." I had never heard of such a thing but John was an outdoor writer and really researched lots of deer related things including diseases. EHD has been around a long time and probably kills deer every year. Some years more than others.
It is what it is.....

Can remember long before ever heard of EHD, finding a dead deer in a pond on occasion. Although I am hearing of several dead and sick deer over last 2 weeks locally it does not appear to be a major outbreak.

I went out to the lake around a week ago and didn't see anything in the lake. Come to think of it I haven't found a deer in the lake towards the end of summer. Had a 6 point in the water around 5 years ago just after hunting season ended.

As stated by Woody it is what it is, all these maps do and all these numbers do is let us know what's going on so if you have property where EHD hits you might move to another area we see it some years and deal with it.

The old days we figured dead bucks in the creeks where poached deer. Maybe EHD deer.
