My mom was exposed to a positive covid coworker last week. She needed a neg test to return. She had to wait 5 days from exposure, and she has now tested positive. She is fully vaccinated, 69yo, in good health, except she has one kidney. She donated the other one to my dad in 1998. He passed last year. So she is high risk. Her doc said to get in for an antibody infusion. Earliest appt was this Fri, doc said no way, scheduled her to hospital Wed 8am. She started to get sick Mon and I called Tues night and she sounds really bad now. She tells me at 9pm she cant drive home after the infusion, and I would need to pick her up! So, I talked to my boss tonight about the protocol and any way to make this work. I am fully vaccinated, but high risk as well with being overweight, high blood pressure, and diabetes. We agreed there is no way around me doing this, with the exception of possibly an ambulance ride, which my mom said no. So, I will be suiting up, over dressing, mask, face shield, gloves, and driving with the windows down. This might help me, but will take me out of work for however long, and will force me to separate from my family during a quarantine. Wife is less than happy about all this. Please keep some positive thoughts for us thru this time of uncertainty. Will keep updates coming.
Jay

Double mask, wear gloves and face shield for both of you. Keep windows down on car. Blast the vent with outside air. Hand sanitizer. Dont take anything off to blow nose or anything unless outside of car.

Hope all goes well. I’ve heard pretty good things about the infusion, which is why I got it.

That puts her in the hot seat then. She is not and won't get vaccinated. Where does that put her with our son and school? She is with her mom daily, who is not vaccinated either. I dont see that as a viable option. I have beat this around in my head all night. My boss just called and he put it in the lap of HR, but got no response back yet.

Ask the hospital if they have ride service other then a ambulance or can they recommend anything.

You have to get your mom in for her infusion.
Suit up like you said and go for it and then let the chips fall where they may.
Prayers for all of you.

I know it's an awkward thing to ask, but is there anyone you know that is vaccinated and in good health that would do it? we hate to quote stats at a time like this but such a person would be at a pretty low risk.
In any case, sorry to hear it. Prayers for a good outcome.

She drove herself to the hospital as planned. They did the infusion already and she says she is feeling ok. They will monitor her for any reactions, and then let her drive home on her own if she feels up to it due to the circumstances. So hopefully, crisis averted! It's about a 40min drive. What makes me nervous is she just crashed her car a couple weeks ago and is in a new to her, small SUV. Fingers crossed this all works out!
