.....but it did.
I had climbed into my second stand of the morning at 7am. It's a hang on stand at 15'. As I stepped into the platform and reached for the strap buckle. POP! The bottom of the stand folded and I plummeted to the ground. It happened so fast.
I landed on my left side. I desperately grabbed for a branch but all the did was rip open my leather glove along with my left palm.
The fall immediately took my wind but, I was still able to feel the pain in my left knee. A trip to the er ended with me getting stitches in my left palm and confirmation via x-rays and CT that my tibial plateau was fractured all the way through. Currently trying to schedule surgery at Rush in Chicago.
I am so thankful that I had a friend with me and was able to clean and wrap my hand and drive me to the hospital.
Safety harnesses and life lines people. Much cheaper that what this all will cost and a lot less time consuming.
Thank my Blessed Savior that I was not hurt any worse than I am now.

Oh my…
I’m glad it wasn’t any worse..
Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.
Yes, we all need to wear our harnesses and be tied off to a safety line at all times.

First I’ll say I hope you fully recover. Secondly I don’t understand why folks don’t use safety harnesses and lifelines. Such cheap insurance compared to doctor bills or a funeral. Not trying to be harsh, but that fall was 100% preventable.

PS..
All of us need to check the cables on our hang on stands. They can and do rust. They then can give away at any time.
None of us bounce as good as we used to.

Not trying to be harsh, but that fall was 100% preventable. It's an accident that was absolutely 100% preventable. You can't be more harsh on me that I have already been to myself. I knew I was going to hear it when I posted it. However, if taking a little heat at my own expense changes the mind of just one person, then I'll gladly bare it. I don't wish this pain, embarrassment, and what's sure to become a financial burden on anyone. So please, please, please, wear a safety harness and life line.

Aww geez, I am really, really sorry that this happened. Glad that it isn't any worse and really glad that you had someone with you.
I just use ladder stands and will be replacing straps this year on the ones that weren't replaced last year.

You have any idea how long your recovery time will likely be?

Wow, the injuries not live concerning, but it could have been much worse. Prayers for full recovery. Yes, can't preach enough for life lines. If 1st time in months install new strap on before stepping on the stand. If original straps from last year put two new straps. Straps. Can't have enough straps!. I throw two away this year. God bless

My father was a crane operator and saw very large diameter cables snap under load and he would never get into one of my lock on stands because of those small cables.

genesis273 You have any idea how long your recovery time will likely be? Not sure yet. The er Dr stated that it'll probably be a two part surgery and thought I would be down for at least 8 weeks. However, I think the actual surgeon will be able give me a better idea.
