If my failing memory serves, Those with hunter Ed numbers were given preference when the draw was made for park hunts. IBO certified went first,( for archery only hunts) then your standard hunter's ed, then everybody else. This is why, in the very late 90's or early 2000's, I drove to Seymour from Clarksburg and sat for nearly 12 hours to get the IBO hunter's ed #.
At any rate, I finally applied for the Clifty Park hunt this year and nowhere in the requirements did I see hunter's ed mentioned, nor any draw preferences listed.
All I saw was something about "randomized computer drawing."
I guess we are all in the same pot now? Or did I miss something?

Unfortunately they quit doing that years ago! I specifically took a class and got my IBO certification for the draw hunts. I would get drawn every year until it became too much work for someone to choose the candidates with the proper requirements!! 🙄

I began to suspect early on that they were just lumping all the hunter ed numbers into the same bag, but now it's a wash, with no preference? Bummers! I remember a kid sat there in my class the whole time with a coloring book and got the same card I did. Glad someone else remembers! I figured I'd get one of those cryptic, well thought out replies like " I don't remember that, wonder why there are no pictures of the class?? Special hunters ed? Must be a trick?"

Way back in the day, each park did their own draws instead of a central computerized draw. Some of us repeat customers always got our preferred zone, both hunts, year after year, and there just isn't that much luck to go around.
Currently, your Hunter Ed information is in the computer when you purchase your license. If they still do the different pools of people now or if there are just so many more adults that have hunter ed that the pool is very deep is a mystery.

If you ever have any wish to hunt out of state they usually require a hunter ed # I know the western states require one even for my dad and he's 72.
