Well, my issue isn't the capacitor, unfortunately. It's the fan motor. I'm hoping the local store has one I can pick up tomorrow.

Since my unit is a geothermal it has a “special fan motor” and has to be ordered. The first guy said he didn’t even know if he could get one! 😳 On a whim I stopped by A+ Derrs in Newburgh. The good folks at A+Derrs Heating and Air put. Loaner fan motor in to get us through until the correct fan motor gets here. Great folks. The first outfit (that originally installed the unit but now doesn’t do geothermal anymore)I called was having trouble even locating a motor. I stopped at A+Derrs shop at 15 minutes to closing time and talked to the supervisor. He had a couple guys follow me home and get me hooked up. That’s going the extra mile! I called he first outfit and tell them never mid and send me a service call bill.

ARRRRRRGGGHHHH! It's contagious! Got home from town and our AC is out! Compressor kicks on but the fan wont run. Then the compressor kicks out. I replaced the fan in this unit about three years ago.. I "think". Called it in. Hopefully they can get here today and have whatever parts they need. AC guy just called and will be here in about 10 minutes. Hopefully it is something simple like a start capacitor.. And this my friends is how I make a lot of money I prey on other people’s misery It’s not personal just the way it works out Just wait till it gets cold I’ll be back for more 😀 Shame on you taking advantage of us poor old fixed income senior citizens..

That is the kind of stuff we try and do it’s very good way of keeping customers calling you instead of chuck and his truck even if you charge more customers know your going to do anything you can to help them in an emergency In the end that’s really all you have to sell is yourself and your service and your ability to respond to problems, Everybody’s got new units new parts and most have the ability to install them in a professional way

I got my blower fan motor ($190) today and installed this evening. No dice. He now believes that when the fan went out, it over heated the motherboard. So, I'll be shopping for a motherboard tomorrow I guess.

So, I'll be shopping for a motherboard tomorrow I guess. You would think they would have tested the circuit AT the motor to know it wasnt the motor. When I do stuff like that, I rig up jumpers to put known voltage right to the part. But that kind of stuff does happens be it home or auto for various reasons, so dont be too upset. Good luck!

I wasn't too upset with him. I was just hoping it would be fixed. One thing that did trouble me a little with him is, he called his boss to let him know the new motor didn't fix it. He told the boss that the old motor had a lot of resistance so he thought that was the only issue. However, I spun the motor just fine and it soun freely without much force. At all. It would make several complete rotations on one spin. But, I'm sure he's soun more motors than me and has a better feel for it. I just didn't think it had any resistance. My local store didn't have my motor so I am not too optimistic that they'll have the motherboard. But, nonetheless, I will definitely check there first.

So the technician never checked the winding resistance with an Ohm meter like a Fluke. That will tell you good or bad.

In this instance, the term resistance he referred to was an electrical measurement, not the physical drag of the motor. If it did have high resistance, easy to see why he thought it was the problem.

I hardly ever do myself check see if bearings are hung or tight and for power off the board if it’s there motors bad no since in tearing into it Depends also on motor the new DC motors you pull the head and check with a 9 volt battery

Home owner insurance may cover the cost depending on coverage.

I found my motherboard at century pipe and supply in Valparaiso. I can get it tomorrow. 30 or so miles due West of me. On the N side of Rt. 30, just East of the furthest West set of RR tracks. You can only access their store from the Westbound side of Rt. 30.

I'll be taking SR49 up to Route 30. Then you will be fine. You'll just have to go West when leaving there and pull a "U" turn not too far West of the RR trestle.

So am I understanding this right, the outside unit comes on, the fan in the outside unit runs but there is not air coming in the house or being expelled from the ductwork? If that is the case then it's something with your furnace, now if we are just talking about the outside unit then I don't know.
