I do not envy your situation what so ever. I don't know if this is available but if municipal water is an option you may want to consider it. My wife and I bought our house 8 years ago and it had well water, the wife said "no way". So I hooked up to what we call city water, ran me about $1000 to hook up start to finish. Just a thought, if the option is there it might save you some money.

The pump house is 5 feet from the main house. I'm just doing all this because I hate carrying buckets of water to the barn. Plus my wife swears our water bill is sky high because we may use 20-25 gallons of water to feed. Mind you both the wife and boy take showers that long that is completely drains the hot water heater. Plus untold amounts of laundry because they have to change clothes 3 times a day....

Wire snapped 3 foot from the top and fell down the well. Luckily I was able to fish it back and hook it to the winch again. We are at a holding pattern now. Afraid if I snap the wire off 50 foot down instead of at the pump, well we would be done.

I see what you are saying, a few years ago I had an idea that I would have a well dug right next to the garden.... Until I found out how much it cost to dig a well. 😵

Just a hillbilly's thought here. If the well in question is used solely for critters, why not capture rain water? A full cistern wouldn't be cost effective, but there are several barrell type rainwater systems that should be able to store planty of water, with winter freezes being the only concern.

Way too easy. It's a challenge now. This is how I get myself into these predicaments. Figure out something and my wife thinks I can fix anything.

Get enough hard line to reach the water and a little beyond and use an inch and a half trash pump to draw the water. From there it's just a water hose to where you need it, or go with a small fire hose and nozzle to wash the cars, houses, barn, fire protection. :-)

Depending on the utility, it's something like $0.25-$0.35 per 100 gallons.
