And it should concern all of us.
I was talking to a customer who owns a small ice cream and hamburger joint. One of his shift managers recently quit because she received $7k in Biden bucks and a "fat tax return." She is taking 4-5 months off and then may want to come back. I told him that I hoped he could find a good replacement and slam the door in her face if she wants to come back. He said "nope, she's a terrible employee, but very good at her job. I probably won't be able to replace her and she knows it."
I don't know how it is in other parts of the state, but construction is almost out of control here. There is so much more work than available labor and materials that it has those of us in management about to break down. Every sub-contractor I have is begging for help and getting absolutely no response. My electrician told me just yesterday that he is about to give it up. He spends all morning trying to gather enough materials for the next day and all afternoon trying to clean up lose ends that his employees leave. He said that wire is getting scarce and goes up in cost almost daily. He has even tried to find other electric companies to give some of his jobs to and no one is any better off than he is.
We stopped at the Ferdinand exit off I64 for a drink on the way home from Easter lunch. From where I was standing in the gas station parking lot I could see five help wanted signs. But yet "millions of Americans" are struggling?

Welcome to the new America indeed. Our president wants us dependant upon the government. The more dependant we are on them, the more rights they take from us. And it's terribly sad to see all those people who are falling for it.
I'm not just talking about the stimulus check. Just the simple fact that they're making it so easy on those who refuse to work that they really have no incentive to go back or look for a job.
To be able to find someone that wants to work, has the pride in actually earning something is nearly impossible these days.
The cost of materials right now is ridiculous too. I have a co-worker that is building a house right now and the materials alone are costing him an extra $20k. There are some subdivisions in our county that have sold their lots but, still sit vacant because 1) They're waiting for cost of materials to go down before they start and 2) The construction companies are having a hard time keeping up since they're having difficulties finding laborers and getting the materials.
Definitely concerning. But what's as equally troubling, there's people in power that think America is finely getting on track.

I hope everyone on here are self sufficient and or close to it. I think inflation and shortages (goods and services) we see right now is just the tip of the iceberg. It's getting harder and harder to find good people in general. The majority in power wants this to continue. Lot easier to control a poor dependent person. I pray for the younger generations that have to deal with this everyday for decades. Do what ever you can to reduce your debt. I know growing families that is nearly impossible. The USA in the near future will be like a lot of other countries with two classes. The rich and poor. Very little to no middleclass.

People that want to work are working and choosing where and how much they make.... the day of I make $100 per hour and you make $10 are all but gone unless your someone that hires the illegal and they aren’t cheap also.
Call the Union hall and have them send out more help..... O wait!

I have been wanting to put up a pole barn at my house for a few years now, but the timing has never been right. Last year around October, I was going to buy the materials, but given that the election was coming up, I figured it might be good to have as much cash on hand as possible. In October, materials were right at $11,000. Today, the same materials are $18,300. I do construction work on the side mainly because I like doing it, but it's also really easy to make money because people would rather pay than learn how to do things themselves. The thing that scares me the most is that not only have materials gotten absolutely ridiculous, but that people don't seem to care about the paying ouble, triple, quadrouple price. I tell my clients how much materials have gone up and they kind of shrug and say, "O well," and then pay me whatever I tell them to. On top of that, I thought that the lumber stores around me would have huge shortages in material... nope, lumber yard is absolutely full of lumber. I just don't get it. Inflation is goin to go absolutely insane over the next year and maybe longer. I wish I would have bought the material for my pole barn last October. Not buying it now, knowing what the price has done in the last 6 months. LOL

It’s been over a year since Covid started the rate of people applying for a job with us has been dang near 0 I’d have to go count but I’d say maybe 5 people and we’re advertising for help all the time along with 50 other plumbers HVAC just about every one in construction is
Maybe I’m wrong but one would think with all these people being without a job I’d have at least 50 or more people applying.
One that just cranks me is the guy or gal standing there begging for food or money at the entrance of a strip mall in front of 5 or more stores that have help wanted signs as big as trucks in the window

People with any type of trade skills are working if they want to be!
BTW..... if folks would stop giving these people money holding signs it may change some things....hate to sound cold hearted but it’s the truth IMO.

I just cannot trust them to really be in need or just taking whatever than get. I have been thru tough times myself and understand what it is like. I wonder how many of the "vets" holding signs really served. A lot of them have gone through the non-skilled jobs. They can't even hold them. Drugs and no work ethic are not conducive to good jobs. I have heard of places that no longer test applicants. |

BTW..... if folks would stop giving these people money holding signs it may change some things....hate to sound cold hearted but it’s the truth IMO. Yes I’m sure some are but every job does not require a degree tons of opportunity for other then skilled trades and by no means a lesser job I believe it’s called Payton’s they are always on the radio I believe it’s a warehouse for Kroger basic work consist of pulling product A stacking on cart and take to shipping area they are starting 16 bucks or that is what they are advertising At least in my area jobs like these are every were most say 16 17 some as high as 25 granted those are going to require a bit of skill and common sense and a lot of them offer 2 to 5 thousand for making 6 months as a perk Tons of guys like me that would hire you and teach you every skill you needed most of theses end up around 25 bucks or more per hour some in a very short time if your somewhat skilled and willing. There will always be the homeless problem a lot of that comes from drugs mental health and other reasons along that line |

If they can hold a sign all day they can get a job. I'd guess the majority of the people doing that spend the money on drugs or alcohol. I'm not supporting their habit. I've been in some tight spots in my life and instead of asking for a handout I got a second job. |

I was 19 and thought the union would be the way to go. It didn't work out for me, I was young and inexperienced and the guy I was working for really only needed me for one project and he laid me off after that, I went back to my previous employer and asked for my job back. Lucky for me he said yes, I worked hard for him through my mid 20's until he sold the business to a larger firm. I think he benefitted from me coming back and I benefitted from him giving me a second chance to learn and grow up a little bit before going after a longtime career, the work I did there was very labor intensive but it was steady work with health insurance and a 401k. Point #2) I'm not sure what kind of business you're in but you can't blame someone for trying to better their situation. Sometimes a starting wage of .30 more an hour can blossom into a much larger pay later on, on the other hand sometimes that bold step to try something different doesn't quite pan out. I hear you when you say it's hard to find good people, I get that but sometimes good people are in need of a second chance (especially the young ones  ) This is a free country and obviously you can run your business anyway you want I'm just trying to give you another side of the coin to think about. |

I can’t say 100 percent but yes they offer benefits or how long it takes the normal around here is after 90 days Again this is only at our company 90 days then you receive most benefits that every one does vacation is based on time of service 401 is one year vested two sick days two personal days 3 days for funerals for immediate family 6 holidays But were not discussing jobs were discussing why no one will show up for one when so many are available Honestly what kind of benefits do you get on unemployment or did Uncle Joe start another free handout that I missed |

Saw that in Terre Haute at US 41 & I-70 exit ramp. We were surveying the area and saw the guy there every day we were there; every day he would get into his new vehicle and leave at about 4pm. |

The guy was good at looking the part and he was parked about 100 yards from where he stood holding his sign. One of our guys was near him when he was getting back to his new truck and asked him about it. He said that he made enough to make his new truck payment every week.
