I'm fast approaching completing my osha 30 course online, 1. that kind of explains my absence for a while and 2. after that does anyone work in a safety related field in which the general industry is looking for? I've seen a lot of different certifications online and was just curious if anyone deals with this. Thanks in advance guys.

Please, for your sake and mine, stay away from the concrete industry. Everything is fine over here. Both sides of the windshield, everyone does what they are supposed to. You'll just be bored with everyone following the rules. I think the adopted moto in concrete is, "PPE, sure is for me".

Do me a favor and try to get hired by IMI. I would love to hear all about your audits.
If you are looking to get work as a safety pro keep your eyes on the job boards. I can say more and more the jobs are going to trained people but most are cultivated from within. Good luck and if you are serious you should find something.

Learn Spanish then your job market will be unlimited and your pay will expand also.
A lot places in construction industry require OSHA 10 for workers and OSHA 30 for supervisors

I got my OSHA 40hr training in 1999 and had annual 8 hr refreshers since then. I'm in environmental field (regulator) and dabbled in safety. I'm looking to move back into the private field for EH&S. The problem is they want more more H&S and not as much E.

I will add IOSHA is always hiring. State benefits aren't bad, but the pay is crap. It would be a good place to work for a couple of years to get experience and move on.

He doesn't have the ink supply or time for all the paperwork. Our other motto is, "you'll have that in these big operations". The new hospital in bloomington was fun. Couldn't tell you how many times I heard, "you need to". Key is to get caught by a different safety guy each time.

Keep looking for just E, may have to relocate but if they need you it is worth it usually.

For me something within a factory setting. Not ruling out anything else, however have a wife and 3 girls and uprooting them would definitely be a big life change. Just looking for something beyond the osha 30 cert. right now. My options are a little limited based on where I live. Evansville and terre haute are an hour north and south for me.
A co worker of mine that I've worked with for 10 years got his osha 30, got a job with amazon at their air hub in Cincinnati and now he is making safety audits on 767 jets, works in a million square foot building and has around 2,000 people working there. He's made a quantum leap from where he was just a month ago.

I had both OSHA and NFPA training in the early 90's, but nowadays I'm out of date on both. It helped a lot when I had to change jobs. Great to put on a resume.
Good luck with your path and certification.

I don't know of any certifications that are required or needed to get a safety job. Up until maybe the last 5 to 10 yrs most safety pros I knew had been doing something else and took safety manager job as a developmental role. Now they hire folks with college degrees and experience. Look for safety tech or Industrial Hygiene Tech to get experience or foot in the door. Once there it gets much easier to move up and they should train you on what they feel is important.

Here's a link to a job posting in Indy from Safety Management Group. It lists first aid/CPR cert and having a "TWIC Card" a plus. Whatever that is. Safety Management Group

I have known a few guys who went to work there. If fit their needs. I think they place you in temporary spots for projects or as a gap filler. I know 2 used it to find a full time spot with companies.
