Ok guys, I thought my problem was fixed but I don't think it is. So far I have cleaned the flame sensor, replaced air filter and got a new thermostat. In the morning it is stopping before reaching temp at least by what the thermostat is saying. Once in a while the new thermostat is loosing power like the old one was. It is wired in. I don't think there is a battery. Just this morning I was looking at the thermostat and went blank. A few minutes later it is showing it has reached 70 degress. Not just 5 minutes later it says 66 and is running again.

Personally it sounds like a wiring issue between furnace/thermostat/power source.

I remember we also had to replace the "brain" on ours once. ( Rheem. about 9 years old ) Some kind of computer that cost hundreds of Dollars. Luckily our heating and air guy got it covered on a warranty somehow.

A tip from an old man:
I use to service my own furnace, things like removing the burner jets and cleaning them ,filters, water lines, whatever how ever at my age and with arthritis setting in I have found a better solution.
I have a very reputable heating and air conditioning company in my town that for approx. $90.00 they do a complete cleaning, adjusting and inspection and that includes a probe camera of the burner chamber and removing and cleaning the jets. They also check the thermostat and calibrate or replace the igniter. If for some reason my furnace fails I move to the top of the callout list for repairs. I do this every other year for a piece of mind when the weather turns ugly like it is now.

We had a thermostat go out once. The first time my wife turned it on for the year it stayed on until I came home and it was over 80 in the house. Wife didn't even notice. Went and bought a new thermostat and it messed up within a day. Exchanged it and the new one has been going strong now for 3 years so I wouldn't trust the new thermostat. Our house has two units so I was able to switch it with the other one to test it.

Sounds similar to what ours was doing a couple years ago. I replaced the thermostat and that fixed it. Maybe you got a dud. Easiest test would be to return it and see if another new one acts the same way. If it does, you know the problem is somewhere else.

We will occasionally get a call from a customer who's new home warranty has expired, but they think we should still be on the hook for HVAC repairs. The standard response from our warranty manager is to ask for a copy of the invoice from the last time it was serviced. That is always the end of the conversation.

Iirc its 138 a year and they come out and service it twice a year. When there is a issue they come out right away and when the variable speed blower motor went out it didn't cost me anything.

Call a furnace guy. Or do what I do and spend 2x chasing the wrong issue. Then get over your head and call a pro.

Not just 5 minutes later it says 66 and is running again. In the directions there should be a installers set and home owners set you may have to set it up most new thermostats come set for 90 % furnace but I donβt think thats the issue it could explain shutting off in advance basically all thermostats shut off before desired temp is reached it uses any heat left in the heat exchanger to gain the last bit so you donβt run pass set temp Thermostat should not go blank unless lost of power itβs hard to believe itβs only happening in the morning A lot of units have a light you can see in a small window through the door It will show a code like 3 long blinks 2 short blinks that ends up to be code 32 look on furnace door or owners manual it will tell you what that code is that might help Also most new thermostats have batteries to save the program it may not if you bought a very simple thermostat but odd
