Opinions will vary on this.
To the people harboring the deer - Not a good idea, but stay off social media and it probably would not have been an issue.
To the complainer - Mind your own business.

Another thing...
The officer said "we can't ignore the law." What about the nationwide riots and vandalism last year that was mostly overlooked by all levels of law enforcement?

I'm surprised they took it to a rehabilitator. Most of these stories have a different ending.
Also, I wonder how you make a tame deer wild again? Seems like they'd have to make every interaction with humans negative to restore any fear in the animal.

The animal was not being held against it's will is what I should have said.

End day people don't look at consequences of their actions. In this case we have a young buck SO what happens this year when deer grows fist set of antlers and ends up hurting one of their kids or someone else ?? These are wild animals and should be treated as such. (Ignorance of law is not a viable excuse.) Sounds like may have a happy ending with rehab facility being able to reintroduce to the wild.

Where I am at there is both state and local laws aimed at stopping this. We have the added danger of bears as well. As far as the deer go, it can get down right scary in my neighborhood during the rut. The mulies live in our neighborhood without fear of people, dogs or vehicles. They walk wherever they want. A couple of years ago a neighbor had to push a BIG buck out of his garage with a push broom. Folks just don't get what can happen when a "tame" animal decides to NOT be tame anymore.

I've seen deer stand by the fence and leap over it, zero running. I don't have an opinion one way or another but that fence did nothing but keep the dog in.

I understand the yearling could jump the fence but it is a fence and they were even letting the deer stay and sleep in house. I think ALL of us would agree that having a buck deer as a pet is a recipe for disaster at some point.

There is at least one story a year about this. People have to know you can't do this. Made the news up here.

Pretty much my view. "Rules is rules, man" as they say, and though they may not have intended it to go as far as it did they had to know the neighborhood hall monitor ( same type that snitched on Anne Frank, imo )would rat them out. It was bound to end badly.
