A few years back I was in a men's meeting at church when one of the younger guys noticed my flip phone. He kept going on about how outdated it was until, finally, I held mine up and asked how many there had flippers. A surprising number of us more (seasoned) still had 'em. So, I established the first ( and only) chapter of the "Royal Order Of Flip Phone Codgers".
Sadly, a while back, I was notified that my carrier was updating and that my phone would not be compatible with changes.
I confess, with shame, that I am no longer worthy to preside over such an esteemed group! I have, alas, succumbed to the siren call of the smart phone.
I find that it is aptly named, for it's powers and abilities seem to be far beyond my grasp.
I will probably have to rent a teenager to navigate me through the strange waters of this devise.
However- we do still have a land line. Hopefully that be considered, by my fellow codgers, as a point in my favor!

Due to pee poor cell service here at the house I have to have both a cell phone and a land line. I had to get away from the flip phone 11 years ago due to needing the technology in the smart phones for the business.

Our cell service here is not the best but at least 19 out of 20 calls on our land line are scams or someone wanting to sell us something- even though we are supposedly on the “no call list”. I’ll keep working on her..

I think most smart phones have wifi calling now if you decide to get rid of the landline. I have crappy cell signal in my house but use the wifi calling fixes any issues.

A smart phone is really not bad to learn. Give it a little time, they are surprisingly handy.

We've used Ooma for 6 or 7 years for our home phone. Their basic service is free after equipment purchase (around $100). We opted for the deluxe, which includes caller ID and a few more options.
It has served us well.

We dropped our land line several years ago.
As far as a flip phone goes, I was satisfied with mine for quite a while (it kind of reminded me of the communicators on Star Trek), but a smart phone is head and shoulders above that technology and well worth the switch to it.

Now we get great service in the house and garage.

It worked great when it worked which was way less than half the time. I finally tossed it. New phones and wifi connection sounds good.

I'm 44 and just got a smart phone this past July I, like you used to have a chip on my shoulder and cosidered the flip phone good enough. When I got my smart phone it took a while to learn (still learning) the two most awesome tools available on my phone are Onx maps and accuweather. I can now hunt stands and have an idea that the wind will be changing around such and such time and reset for the afternoon without boogering a spot too bad. I'd lime to say I could go back to flip phone if I wanted ti but I've been sucked in. If I could just explain to the wife that it's a pain in the butt to dig any phone out of my pocket to check text messages I'd be more welcoming to having a phone on me at all. They are great tools and great for emergencies but they come with baggage in my opinion.

I have a corded phone to use if the electric is out and the mobile land line phone doesn't work. If the booter goes out, then the boosted signal goes away too. Signal is so poor here that at times without the booster I cannot send or receive a text message, let alone try to make a phone call or try to check voice mail on the cell phone line.
