Very nice!! Looks a lot lighter than my beast. I usually throw the splitting logs to the side until we get a good week of below 0 temps. Frozen wood splits a lot easier. I dont split unless over 12 inches across.

Any of you gentlemen ever have the pleasure of splitting Elm with a sledge and wedge? I personally have not run into anything stringier than elm wood, it’s horrible.

I've split 2 elm logs that were 6' long with a sledgehammer and many many steel wedges. It was not fun. 2 of the guys helping me were bleeding by the time we were done. I cut an osage tree that had interlocking grain like elm. It was so tough I couldn't get an axe head started in the end using a sledge hammer. I took the rest of the tree to a sawmill

Green Sycamore isn't much easier than the Elm..... I don't think dry hackberry is either. Then again, I bought a 37 ton wood splitter almost 15 years ago and my biggest issue now is the size of the blocks.
