We hosted another family for dinner the other night. The ladies work together and our kids are similar in age. The Mr. is an avid hunter that will inherit 100+ acres of good hunting land. He is always looking for a way to get his young son interested in deer hunting. I asked if he has ever looked into youth crossbows. His reply was something that I did not expect. "No, dad doesn't allow any bow hunting on the farm." You can imagine the look on my face. "He's found too many dead deer during archery season that were obvious bad shots."
I wonder how many other landowners have similar opinions?

More than you would think, IMO.

Depends on if owner is trying to manage the herd or reduce it IMO

But according to most people only gun hunters wound or put bad shots on deer I've heard that (and I've seen it a few times in my life), and I'm quite sure there are hunters who are willing to take marginal shots to try and fill a tag (regardless of what type of equipment they hunt with). Unfortunately, that type of behavior can put all hunters in a bad light with some people.

I've heard other way around but not "no bowhunting".

More than you would think, IMO. You`re exactly right I think. This is a place where education would be appropriate and beneficial. I`ve heard the same thing from non-hunters: they believe bow hunting is "cruel" and "painful" for the deer, but they`ve never watched an arrow pass through a deer and then see the deer fall over a few seconds later, seemingly oblivious that anything just happened. I`ve hit deer with a shotgun slug or a muzzleloader bullet and not recovered them, but I don`t recall a bowshot deer that I haven`t recovered.

I know the first place I had permission to hunt with my dad, the landowner only allowed bow hunting only IF you could shoot a three shot group similar or tighter than he could.

My long term landowner lady tells us not to mess with a bow. She says we should be using AR15's or anything semi auto to kill every deer in the area. Lol. She hates deer!

Weird. Most farmers around us prefer us to use archery equipment. As a matter of fact 2 of my brothers hunt a place that only allows archery....no guns period.
