would you recommend that wont break the bank but is a good deer gun? i had a remington inline many years ago that didnt fire when i had a big ten not 50 yrds.out in the scope ,so i got rid of it.wasnt the guns fault ,i left a small film of grease behind the nipple . i would like to get back into it but dont want to spend a bunch ,i spend enough on archery thru the course of the year for two people.

Really any modern inline muzzle loader will shoot 2" or better @ 100 yds with the right load. Walmart will be putting theirs on sale soon if they haven't already and you can pick on up for a good price.

Everybody has them on sale right now, so this is prime time to get into a muzzleloader on the cheap. I would recommend a CVA Kodiak or a Traditions Pursuit. They both shoot great, are easy to clean (removable breach plugs), and are relatively inexpensive in comparison to Knight or T/C.

look into a NEF sidekick. The blued/wood one can be had for under $180. Breaks down like a single shot shotgun. Good bang for the buck[no pun intended].

can get a CVA at wallyworld under $100, shoots great and will make em just as dead as a $400 gun. The primer is exposed to the elements but I just tape a playing card over it when its raining or snowing

first I have ever heard. That info is put out by a Savage arms website...but you can bet I will investigate further! Ive never been a big fan of loading 150gr either like many, no need for over 100 imo.

Absolutely untrue, that is an independent website by Randy Wakeman, an independent firearms writer. Randy is not employed by Savage and the information was gathered by independent labs working on behalf of attorneys and their clients who were injured by unsafe muzzle loaders.

I know that there is a recall for certain serial numbers because there were problems with some of the designs (I think they had some barrels fail but I am not sure). In the name of safety here is the recall information:
In August 1997, CVA implemented a Voluntary Recall of all In-Line rifle models with serial numbers ending in 95 or 96. Example: 61-13-XXXXXX-95, or 61-13-XXXXXX-96. If you have a CVA In-Line model with such a serial number do not use or allow anyone else to use the gun. If you have one of these riffles, call CVA immediately at 770-449-4687 for complete details and a replacement rifle.
(This recall information is listed both on the CVA web site as well as in the owner’s manual of any CVA gun that you buy.)
I don’t think that you will have that problem with any of the newer guns. The bad publicity is out there already though.
On another note I just got a CVA Kodiak pro for Christmas. I have not been to the range yet but it seems like a solid gun and the price was right.

Gentlemen, The sad truth of the matter is that CVA does not use gun barrel quaility steel, and does not proof test their barrels to the same pressure as their recommended loads. Research this for yourself and save yourself the heartache. Personally makes no difference to me what kind of gun someone shoots. I figure the more shooters we have the better off we are. I also think we as hunters and shooters need to stick together, we have enough enemies in the liberal left. But I dont want to see anyone get hurt either.

Hmmm, if weedhopper is an hour east, that puts me around 15-30 minutes east of Rifleman... Depending on how far north/south he is! Where are both of you at? I know weed is around Monrovia?
