I found a couple down in Lafayette on Facebook Marketplace. Here's what I don't understand, I am not on Facebook or messenger. But, Facebook Marketplace lets me browse without an issue. However, I can't make contact with the sellers since I don't have Facebook. So, I joined and signed up for messenger. Then, they blocked all access to marketplace since I'm a new Facebook user. I waited 48 hours and still no access so I deleted the account I signed up for. I was then allowed access to marketplace again. Makes no sense to me.
Anyhow, I did find a couple used trucks down in Lafayette that I am interested in. I was in sticker shock trying to go through a dealership. I'm finding similar trucks for a few thousand dollars to less going through private sellers.
I'm not hung up on makes. I'm not a mechanic so I don't have the knowledge to dispute what's best. I don't want something brand new sitting in the driveway that I'll be making a house payment on. If I drove it every day that'd be one thing but, I have a work vehicle. I haven't had a truck payment for 15 years and I'm not eager to get another one. So hopefully I can work out a cash deal with a seller this morning.
I've been online shopping for over a month and finally found a couple that I think I can handle. There's several more in Illinois, Chicago area but, I don't want to make the drive up that way just yet. If I strike out in Lafayette this morning, I'll have to reconsider crossing the state line.
Fingers crossed 🤞

Good luck. Make sure you kick the tires. Just kidding. I would say the biggest is looking for fluids or signs of fluids. Either transmission and or oil. Mostly look under the truck very well for oil stains and or oil and same for on top of the engine. Look if the truck is straight etc.

Good luck. Its tough to buy used right now. I was talking to a car salesman buddy of mine and he said most used vehicles have increased 3000 minimum in value since covid.

Well I scored in Lafayette. I got a 2008 F-150 King Ranch. Black over beige with brown and tan leather interior. 128,000 miles. I'll be the third owner. New brakes all around. Rotors and calipers in the rear. Good tires. Body and interior aren't mint but, in great condition. Engine looks clean. The entire undercarriage has been under coated. They were asking $10,800, I paid $8,400.

Thanks. I honestly did not see myself getting a Ford. Wasn't opposed to it but, I had my eye on a GMC down there. But, apparently I wasn't the only one. It was gone before I got into town.

You just need a cowboy hat to match the interior now.

Love the f150s! I bought mine new in 2000 and it now has 236,000+ miles on it. It's developed a few minor issues, but still runs great and reliably gets from point A to point B.

I once, a long time ago was a Chevy Silverado guy, then I became a diehard, lifelong Toyota Tacoma guy. The shop that does my truck work is in Danville, and I love these folks. The owner is a Christian guy, and I`ve done business with them for years. I have a great business relationship with them and trust them implicitly. We were talking about my Tacoma one day, and even just Toyota`s in general, and he said that even other manufacturers anymore are doing such a good job manufacturing that almost any new vehicle, if properly maintained throughout it`s life, will last a lot longer than they used to. I think that`s a fair assessment, even though it`s my opinion that Toyota and Honda still are just better overall vehicles and will likely last a bit longer and be a bit more mechanically sound.
