Out of general curiosity when do you guys typically start calling and when do y’all end. I’m sitting here in my stand and was just wondering. Except for this year I’ve solely hunted pressured public and never called and I was curious cause you read everywhere go ahead and call when I’m low pressure areas. I was wondering if it was too late to do some experimenting and get some practice in and what kinda call would you guys “givin it the good ol’ college try” with

I'm not a blind caller, meaning zero deer are seen and just attempting to "cast a line" as some say. I've probably blind called maybe dozen times over the past 3 or 4 deer seasons. I just don't like disclosing location, and you never know when a big buck is literally 50 yards away in brush capable of pin pointing you the second you do it and you didn't see him. I like my sits to go unnoticed or with an arrow through a boiler room.
Now I will throw a call or two at a buck if it is the only way to maybe entice them as they slip away or just out of range.

I agree this is best, but it is now past the rut and the bucks are bedded down. Only time up during the day would be feeding. Especially after a bad winter weather, the next day. A call might get the buck off it's feet. I wouldn't call much, but this time of year is tough. I don't believe in a 2nd rut. Only a few fawns coming into heat up to March action.

I've had a lot of success using grunt call. (Used to harvest this year's buck.) He was close to 100 yards below me walking away. I grunted 4 x's at him as loud as I could and he turned his head and looked my way, but lost him in some cedars. Within a few seconds he popped out of the thick cover just 20 yards away coming straight at me where I shot him. Last year's buck was tending a doe 50 yards away and was going to pass me without offering a bow shot. I made 2 short soft grunts at him and he turned and left doe coming to 8 yards where I shot him. End day some bucks respond and some show no interest or even run off.. I'd add I've had more success with mature bucks (4.5 + responding than younger bucks. Maybe a territorial response IDK... Younger bucks seem more curious than anything or try to circle downwind and catch scent of buck making grunt.. I rarely rattle but never hunt w/o grunt tube in pack.
