Hunt the evenings on a food source is the best bet, but I wouldn’t overlook hunting mornings with bucks searching for the late estrous does!!

Anytime I can be out, and on a known run used for travel to the feed in the afternoon, or on a known run used for travel to bed in the morning. Once the weather gets really brutal, they`ll bed much closer to the food source, so that both simplifies as well as complicates the endeavor.

Evenings without a doubt.

Evenings are probably best this time of year with a good food source nearby but I have gotten to where I do not enjoy evening hunts. Gets colder as the hunt goes on, dark when you are tracking or field dressing and no time for a nap afterwards because it is bedtime.

Afternoon food source. I am hunting mornings this weekend just in case, but going to concentrate knocking down some skurries to appease the landowner some. He has made it well known they are over abundant and need thinning.

Both. I'm pretty busy right now and will be getting even moreso soon. Therefore, I'll hunt when I can.
That being said, afternoon food source is by far my preference this time of year.

I VERY rarely hunt mornings outside the rut. Vastly too much of a bumping chance I'm unwilling to do or risk unless literally bulletproof entrance exists. Depending on stand I'm hunting this time of year, a typical year - not this insanely warm year we are having, I will hit the stand with only 2 hours left if hunting right on edge of large food, if an isolated pocket food source or transition zone I'm going in as early as I can after lunch. Lot of early afternoon cruising can happen this time of year on those type of spots, bucks reaching out for that final doe or two and they know food around cover will have the does first.

A lot depends on timing. Obviously you should hunt whenever you can.... During RUT I prefer a.m. (Daylight till noon). Late season I prefer afternoons , concentrating on food. Weather can effect movement as well, I like Hunting before and after cold fronts as well.

Hunt the evenings on a food source is the best bet, but I wouldn’t overlook hunting mornings with bucks searching for the late estrous does!! This is what I’m banking on right now I got tons of mature bucks in my area that have seen no pressure their entire lives I’m the 1st only person to hunt this piece in a decade, and I got a estrus bleat and I’m hoping to at least spark curiosity in one of em. Now as far as morning vs evening I’m a big believer in the all day sit I don’t really care if it’s not as effective as some say it brings me piece of mind that the deer don’t all of sudden go and have party while I’m away. Times when I do hunt public I see tons of afternoon action cause the deer get used to hunts getting down around 11am- noon ish and coming back around 3pm
