So I just finished my first morning out on my property and I feel like I blew it.
First time I've ever used a bow hunting before and I missed my shot at roughly 40 yards. Arrow dropped low so I'm going to sight it in again today to ensure it's still accurate, but I'm thinking I misjudged the distance.
To add insult to injury, I got out of my stand about 30 min after I missed, thinking "I guess I spooked the deer for today", and what do I see when I get to my garage? A doe walking around the bottom of my stand...Definitely a lesson learned today, that's for sure. I'm a new hunter so I figured the 3 deer I saw in the morning were the ONLY deer in the area. Doh!
At this point, I'm just hoping to get something to throw meat in the freezer. Would anyone recommend that I take to the public areas instead of my property to get something, or should I keep to my stand for the rest of the season?
I saw 4 total this morning and 5 a few days ago when I did an afternoon sit. Not sure if that's just luck or that means a lot of deer are in my area.

I'd hop back in the stand tomorrow morning. You KNOW the deer are there..... Do deer typically come back the day after being spooked? They definitely didn't see me after I shot. Ran about 20 yards and stopped to look back, then fast walked over the hill. Wasn't sure if they'd be too spooked to return this evening (or next morning for that matter).

If they spooked because they knew you were there, then they might not come back. BUT, that's only the deer that you spooked, what about the others that you saw? As for practice, practice from the height of the stand that you are in, shooting from an elevated platform is different than shooting from the ground.

If they didn’t blow at you or run a mile I’d say they will be back I’ve seen deer scare themselves it’s their nature
As said above practice from your stand height makes a big difference
Welcome to bow hunting keep after it and good luck

I have shot quite a few deer with my bow since that is all I use nowadays. But the thing I have noticed with beginning archers is judging distance and having patience. Every deer I have killed have been 20-30 yards they may give me a shot at 40 but I patiently wait till its a chip shot. More dead deer and no wounded ones! So stay at it and be patient and you will get it done!!

Sat out there all afternoon and didn't see anything. I'll give em a day to reduce pressure and be out there before first light on Sunday. If they keep coming around I'm pretty sure I'll bag one of them. Just need them to get close.

I just checked my trail cams real quick next to my spot. Looks like 4-5 doe returned to that same spot this morn around 6 and 8 AM! I'm going to sit on that stand tomorrow and hope I get lucky.
