Some know I'd been unable to hunt due to being sick for weeks, well not completely better but decent finally started hitting the stand a week ago...yesterday got on stand for an all day sit.
Lot of deer throughout the day, plenty of bucks but not one over 70 inches came by.
Found out I wasn't capable of fighting off coughing fits, to the point of tears and finally having to get down and head to truck to hack a lung up...15 minutes later finally felt okay and went back to stand.
Little after 4pm doe I call Silverback (massive old doe) came out and started feeding right by stand...heard grunts around 430 coming from where she came from and bam this guy stepped out.
To cut story shorter, he came to spot at 17 yards where he needed 3 more steps and I would have a shot...I was almost ready to draw when he stopped. Over 12 minutes he stood there, not moving...well he did move one step back when the wind hit the back of my neck and hit him....only for a moment. I even had to unhook release so I could warm finger to be able to function on a hot hand.
Finally stepped, drew...I was seated and needed to stand to get a shot if he didn't keep walking...he didn't and stopped....I decide to stand slowly...he catches me...half stood I settle pin and release.
Slams through top 1/2 of shoulder entrance side, busts through bottom edge of off shoulder and sticks in the ground...he tears off NE and eventually all falls silent.
Not seeing him fall in sight despite seeing lung bubble loaded blood on arrow at inspection I don’t track but force myself to take everything back to truck, tear of all my thick layers for lighter and hit the trail hour and a half after shot. Great blood and even this blind boy could follow it.
Needless to say God shined on this hoosier boy yet again far more than I deserve.
Just a few of the plethora of photos we took, little man was loving life! Sorry not sure how to just embed the pictures, links to them below.
