Hey guys. I am butchering my deer from Saturday right now. I may take some of it to a butcher later in December to have it made into sausage plus I may have my parents can some for me. Instead of wrapping it in freezer paper like I normally do can I put it in some freezer bags for a couple months? This will also save me some time. I want to get all done today because my dad asked about going fishing on Tuesday. I'm on vacation all week and think I will wait till Wednesday to go back out hunting.

I've done it many times. Won't hurt a thing.

I think a couple months is okay. Now a year maybe not with freezer burn.

3 months at the most. Otherwise it will start freezer burning. Try and squeeze all the air out.

I had elk last night that I killed 25 months ago, frozen in freezer ziploc bags.
Last week I finished my bear, killed 18 months ago, frozen in freezer ziploc bags.
I've never lost any meat to "freezer-burn" or the like, but I do squeeze as much air out as possible and I double bag all of it.

That’s the way I package all my meat, might get freezer burn after a couple years.

I vacuum seal all mine. I've had antelope ,that was a hidden package in the freezer , that was 6 years old. Looked ok so cooked it up. Was just fine.

I put mine in bags, then wrap in freezer paper. Single layer will lead to freezer burn, double layer will last for years.

The thing I found with freezer bags is that if they are moved around in the freezer and get a tiny pinhole in them, that's where the freezer burn starts. Freezer paper over the bag stops that.
