Question...I may have missed it, but are park hunt results ever shared? I don't see it in the deer summary?

Question...I may have missed it, but are park hunt results ever shared? I don't see it in the deer summary? The DNR gent that heads up the park hunts puts out a yearly report. The numbers are included in the Deer Report totals

Overall, 2019 showed consistency with the last few years in the adult buck percentage, but the long-term trend still points toward an increase in selective harvesting of adult bucks. At a few properties, the adult buck harvest consistently exceeds 40% of the total harvest. Such parks may need to switch into a disincentive model for hunters to help ensure that over-selective hunting is not occurring. Examples include “earn-a-buck” and antler removal by park staff at check stations. One must first harvest an antlerless deer before harvesting an antlered deer within the “earn-a-buck” model.
^^Pulled that from the report, that's refreshing to see. Makes me at least know it is something they study.

If it were a real problem, it seems like they could just make you use your buck tag on the park hunts. From an outsider's perspective though, it seems like the hunts have been pretty effective overall. My issue with it is two parts: -It doesn't make sense logically in some of the draws to call them reduction hunts, yet see or hear nothing but bucks posted from them LOL....unless all these parks are just void of does I find that hilarious. -The other part fully admit is just bitter from never being drawn (one time it happened), and I am willing to shoot the first offered shot on any deer as they request. LOL so just bitter guy...maybe I am getting old LOL I've only been drawn once and the only thing I shot was a doe. All around monitoring of the hunts could be better though. My #1 spot had someone in it at 5:30(which was the time we were technically allowed to leave the parking area) because I could see their headlamp from the road. The guy had not parked in a designated area and also went in early. I'm sure he got a couple of does because there was a herd of 4-5 that I saw there on most of my scouting trips and there was at least 2 separate blood trails. So does do get killed.

I don’t think any of the parks are truly a “reduction” hunt anymore. They are more of a “maintenance” hunt. You can no longer go into the park hunts thinking you will always tag three deer. Most probably don’t even see three deer. This was always the goal of these hunts from the beginning, maintaining a healthy herd.

I agree with you most are now...but trust me way back in the day I know for a fact it was not to maintain on many but to try to curb the overpopulation. Potato Creek up by me when I was younger was LOADED with deer, an INSANE AMOUNT OF DEER.

With the central draw system now, I can see where that would be difficult. But, when each park did they're own draws, some people were excluded from participating because of previous actions. So if you just shoot a buck you excluded from further hunts? Do tell Rules say first deer.... Hmmm... Also I been to Indy office in the past inquiry about park hunts and all the folks that had applied was listed there for drawing. A lady actually advised me where to apply for because few applicants Not exactly. I do know some guys were openly bragging about passing multiple bucks waiting on something bigger and not even considering a doe until that bigger buck was killed that were left out on future hunts. I also know individuals and groups that would take whatever the first three deer that would present a shot that not only got drawn every single year, but ended up getting their preferred hunting area each year. "Random" draws don't produce such results year after year after year.

Never, however when I was reading the details of my draw hunt,it did say something about paying to get in to scout. NEVER in the past has this been the case.

Yes we have paid before. The regs used to say that fees were not waived except on hunt days? Not sure if they still do?

Anyone get McCormicks Creek? I got it last year for the first time, I scouted a couple times, found a decent setup and never saw a deer. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.

It was 2018 when I did my park hunt. I just told the person at the gate I was scouting for the deer hunt and they let m ein without paying. Sounds like that has changed.

I hunted turkey run 2 years in a row about 12 years ago and saw 1 deer in the 2 years I hunted it. People who want to impose more restrictions are just kidding themselves that it will make a difference.
I worked at Newport and they made you shoot a doe before your buck. It was easier said than done and resulted in party hunting.

I killed a 130ish 12 pointer and was home before Noon! That my friend, was a hunting accident! LOL
