Made the trip today to see if they still honored their "Lifetime Warranty" on Cabela's brand gear. They don't. Their warranty now is a whopping 90 days.
I've been close to the store before, but this was my first time inside. It's smaller than I expected, a bit crowded with merchandise, and the fish tank was extremely disappointing. It seemed like 50% of the occupants were carp. Guess they got their fish from the White River.
Is my assessment accurate, or were my expectations too high?

Not sure about the warranty, but I will say the fish tank used to be a whole lot better, some small sturgeon, bass, catfish etc. Must have had some die.

My opinion they over saturated the markets with indy and cincy size stores. Should have stuck with catalogs and wen
I hate the Indy store. I still drive to Clarksville for BPS but same deal. It is not a destination type of store like some of the other big stores are.

ALL the Cabelas stores went downhill fast once Bass Pro finalized the deal.

ALL the Cabelas stores went downhill fast once Bass Pro finalized the deal. I could not agree more. I've noticed that some of the Cabelas brand merchandise is gone and has been replaced by Red Head brand. I've always thought that Cabelas stuff was much better quality. They stopped carrying Meindl shoes. I now order them direct from Meindl. I've had a Cabelas credit card for 20+ years. We use it for everything possible and I benefit from the points. It used to be that I could call the CC line with a problem and was treated like a valued customer. Not so much anymore. Capital One has the account now and could care less.

I got rid of my cabelas code 5 yrs ago. Now I use a card that let's me pay for anything. We use it to buy plane tickets and rental cars on family vacations.
More evidence that competition is a good thing. Once bps controlled cabelas there is no push for them to be better than the next guy

Only time I was ever in a Cabelas I had a very hard time finding anything that wasn't made in Communist China. Have not been in one since then.

I guess I just march to a different beat. As I travel for my job, I welcome the opportunity to stop in at any Bass Pro / Cabela’s! I like to check out the Gun Library if possible. I usually hit the Fly Shop. And sometimes I just roam around looking for a “deal.”

In Cincinnati we have both and about 15-20 minutes away. The Bass Pro is 2 to 3 times the Cabelas store. I drive by the Bass Pro going and coming from work. Stop in a few times a year. Both about a 20 minute drive from work.

I really miss the SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE that was in Lafayette.
Like Duff I got rid of my Cabela's credit card and switched to a Capital One that pays me back in cash?

IMO, BassPro has a better selection of fishing equipment, but Cabela's always had a better selection of firearms, hunting equipment, and hunting clothing. Cabela's hunting clothing seemed to be better quality as well plus Cabela's bargain cave was a great place to pick up items for a good price.
Cabela's would take firearms trades and the BassPro in Clarksville (where I shop) never has. Having said that, I recently talked to the manager of the firearms area and he told me BassPro was going to start taking trades. We'll see if that ever happens and what the process is (if it does).
Overall, I always thought Cabela's selection and overall priceing was better than BassPro's. BassPro seems to have the same stale inventory year in and year out...

I discontinued my BPS and Cabela's credit cards years ago. With my job and travel, nothing compares to the perks I get from my IHG (Holiday Inn/Priority Club) card.

I agree with most of the posts on here. Pretty much the only time I go there is if I need something in a hurry or to pick up an order, mainly ammo because of the free shipping. I don't even look at the clothes. Straight to the bargain cave and back out. I also got rid of my card about a year ago because I was noticing everything I wanted was cheaper somewhere else. Now I have a Citi card which gives 2% on everything and a DU visa for 5% back on sporting goods and gas. I really wish we had a Scheels close by.

I'm down to two credit cards. One for offline and one for online. That's it. I'm working starting December 22nd to remove all dept. I'll be 59.5 years old and there is no 10% penalty to remove from 401K. I've been stacking away since the early 80's. I will be dept free by age 62. That is my plan. My wife's birthday is one year and one week after mine. We are retiring together. I will be 63 and wife 62. That's the plan. So this year I've closed all credit cards, but 2.

Sounds like a good plan, Being debt-free is it`s own reward, and it releases a lot of pressure and tension.
