The wife is on board with building a new deer rifle on an AR platform. Im leaning toward either a 350 legend or 450 bush master. Whats your opinion and how's ammo availability?

I was deciding between those same two when I was buying a new rifle back in January. Went with the .350. Can’t complain about it so far as it performed great on my son’s buck during youth season. Ammo has been hard to find but I have a few boxes now so should be good for a little while. I just heard the .450 was super loud and that kinda swayed me the way I went.

I got both. I have bought ammo for each, but also hand load. 350L has been a thorn in the side for many, me included. I finally got mine straightened out and running 100%.
The 450bm is a handful. You will want a good muzzle brake and hearing protection. If you got kids involved, the 450bm will be very intimidating. It's a bruiser, and muzzle blast will be booming.
I like both, so cant offer a differing opinion.
PM me if you have any questions. I work 2nd shift so may play tag with answers.

Thanks guys. The kids will definitely be using it so.it seems lile the 350 will be better, plus it's legal in Ohio too. Now to start looking for and pricing components. Never built one so this will be interesting.

Just my opinion. I hate AR’s for deer hunting. Once you get settled in and charge the thing it slams home with a loud racket. I’ve tried to get around that on mine but after a few FTF’s I said no way. If it were me I’d buy a Rem 700 in .223, have the barrel taken off and a .350 L barrel screwed on. But that’s me. I hunt with a 358 wssm on public land when I do but .243 ackley or .308 on my private. Depending on my mood. My wife uses my 6x45 Daughter and son both use .243’s

350L kicks like a kitten, if kids will be shooting then its a no brainer, go with the 350.

These are pretty much my thoughts also. An AR is a "battle rifle" made for carrying around on the move, short for close quarters work, big mag for plenty of fire power, well suited for shooting off hand, etc. A bolt gun is much better suited for hunting.

I don't know if you're on Facebook but if you are join some of the 350 Facebook pages. I know the ar build in this caliber has been nothing but a headache to many that have way more skill than most of building them. Failure to feed, misfire, jamming. You name it. Not an ar guy so no help but it may take some of the learning curve out and point you a better direction one way or another when buying components. Personally, waiting for a savage 110 to come back into stock and will be doing a build one that.

I'd never take an AR with me hunting unless it was the last option IMO.

I have a buddy who deer hunted with an AR platform rifle and loved it.

Will be hard to beat the Ruger for the money. I know of several out there, and they are accurate beyond their price point. I have a 243, and it is under moa if you dont heat up the barrel.

You dont need a big mag in an AR hunting gun. There are 5 and 10 shot mags too. Or, single feed them. To me, it's a plus to have a short, handy gun, adjustable for youths. Once you get them straightened out and cycling every time, they are as good as anything. You can camo them up so they dont look scary too! I have 3 in the mix this year, 6.5 Grendel, 350L, and 450BM. I will try to put them to use and report back.

Going to use a AR platform 450 BM for the park hunt this year. The adjustable butt stock on them make them ideal for youth hunters who need a shorter stock. I think the 350 Legend was rushed to market and that's why so many people are having fits with them.

I have a couple and like them, although they're not my favorite rifles.
As stated before, my biggest gripe is the noise from charging.

Maybe not everyones cup of tea, but I charge my AR at the car and put my safety on. My 350 legend is a side charge, so it's not as bad.
