Just tryed shooting the Pioneer Powder-Shockey's Gold. Started out alright, but after several shot I started experiencing some inconstancies. It wanted to hang fire and sometimes small pieces of the powder would fly off wildly, like it had ignited after it had came out of the barrel. When I would run a cleaning patch down the barrel, it would come out looking like it had mud on the patch. Im shooting a Knight Dice 50 cal with Power Belt 295 gr bullets, with 100 gr of powder. The powder is the compressed charge form. I did not like the shape of the pellets. It was truly like putting a square plug in a round hole. The last three shot that I made, misfired so badly, that I did not even hit my target board. I am truly disappointed with the results.

THanks for sharing. I wasnt' sure about them. THe shape looks like they would crumble under seating pressure of the projectile.

After playing with APP powder, the only thing I will use it for anymore is testing flintlock function while in the shop. If you grind it up fine, a well-tuned flint lock will ignite it (it still won't "flash" only "ffffoosh"). Not as smelly and keeps me from going back and forth outside.

Hodgdon sued them out of buisiness for making pellets (Hodgdon has the patent). It's awful stuff. I used it briefly. Also, do not use pellets of any kind with Powerbelts in Knight rifles. Knight's have a larger bore diameter (.502) than most 50 cals. In colder weather the powder doesn't generate pressure fast enough to obturate the bullet in the bore. Add that to the larger bore diameter (Powerbelts are good for bores of .500-.501) and the bullet and flaming pellet flies out of the bore. I used pyrodex pellets once and had this happen to me. I have since given up both Powerbelts and Pellets. Note: This usually just happens with the lower weight Powerbelts. Weights of 348 and up should be ok with pellets.

I went to the Powerbelts a few year ago because after the first shot, it was almost impossible to get any other bullet down the barrel. So I don't know if this hold true for my gun? ?

All my guns are the same way. That's why I always carry two pill bottles full of patches. One pill bottle holds damp patches, one holds dry patches. I swab the barrel after every shot even in the field.

I opened up a bottle of the pellets in the store took one look at then and picked up pyrodex. Just did not like the looks of those pyrimid shaped things. Like Chico I thought that they would crumle during seating and then not ignite well.

I used the regular clean shot pellets this year, and they shot well and were pretty clean i thought. The only thing i didnt like was the shape of the pellets. You usually have to push on them to get em started and that shaves poweder off of them. I'll probably switch back to pryodex or back to grainular powder in clean shot. Not sure yet.

I have two 50 cal. blackpowder rifles. (TC Omega)and a (Knight). I use a Hornady 50caliber (44cal-240gr. sabots) and 100gr pyrodex powder pellets in them both. They are both highly accurate out to 150yds without fail and i haven't had a misfire yet and i shoot alot and hunt in all types of bad weather. I can't say i have experienced any type of firing inconsistancies. Usually if something works i don't fix it. Thats why i use the same bullets and powder pellets in both guns.(VERY ACCURATE) This is just what i use but that doesn't mean it will work in all guns.
