Carried my summit tree stand yesterday about 3/4 of a mile. Now I got a stiff neck and sore shoulders....I’m 50 and feel like I’m 500 This usually happens to me first time I carry this stand every year, seems it gets easier as the year goes on.

I do have padded straps on it. It’s a custom harness built for hauling tree stands. It’s just that I also carry everything plus the kitchen sink. Probably have 65 +/- lbs all total.

Rattled and grunted this morning...., and that was just getting out of bed!! Old age benefits!! I`ll be 64 in April. The doctor said there's little to no cartilage left in the left knee, talk about pain, my balance isn`t what it ought to be due to a radiation treatment I had several years ago, I`m not as strong as I once was, even though I do some light weight training, and getting down on the ground to field dress a deer isn`t as big a chore as getting back up is. I struggle with getting older, and miss my youth terribly. From playing football to running the mini-marathons, to just feeling good about feeling good, I miss all that. But even in spite of all of that, I`m so blessed and grateful for the quality of life I enjoy. Can`t wait to finally get out for my first hunt of this season, good Lord willing.

I think the heaviest stand summit makes is 23 lb give or take maybe your pack should go on a diet cause that’s 40 lb your carrying I use to be the same way I’d have knifes saws camera before phones coats rain gear flashlights much like you I imagine. I don’t use it much anymore since I got my own ground and gave up on park hunts but when I do I have 1 or 2 waters and food if I’m sitting for a long time and carry my bow. If I’m lucky I carry the stand and bow out Than put everything on a deer cart and walk back in It’s much easier

The wife & I are in pretty good shape for the shape we're in.Years of hitting the gym 3 days a week have helped greatly, but I know that the Lord is the source of all good things. I'll be 73 come June, so I got a couple of years on ya. I am still able to do most things that I want to. I am more selective about the terrain that I hunt. Dragging uphill is something that I avoid if at all possible. May need to recruit some young, strong guys to team up with.

My hats off to you 73 and still using a climbing stand I’m just about 60 and not sure how many times I still want to use my summit anymore Still can but every time I look down I wonder if maybe I should stop at 10 or 12 feet instead of 17 18 feet

Strictly a ladder stand guy. Sometimes, in gun season, I'm a 5 gal. bucket with a hot seat guy. I liked the climbers when I used 'em. But that has been a few years back at this point. Y'all be safe in those stands!!

Don't do what my Dad did. He went way too long before getting the knee replaced and since he had lost so much muscle mass his recovery was a royal pain and he never fully recovered, but that could be because he didn't do all the therapy they wanted him to do BECAUSE OF HIS MUSCLE LOSS. He said his legs were too tired doing the therapy.....

I'm only 40, and I feel it, lol. The last year and a half has been a battle. Last summer a complete right elbow rebuild, months of therapy. Than this spring ,a complete ruptured Achilles. Was in a bed pretty much May thru August, and lots of therapy. Made a goal to climb my ladder sticks, by Oct over 1st, and I am. Little more cautious climbing, more of a mental thing after that injury, but havnt had any problems.

Inactivity, like your time being bed fast, really takes a toll, but sounds like you're persevering. Keep it up, young man.
