Hello,
Please join me in welcoming Moriah Boggess as Indiana DNR's Deer Biologist. A native of North Carolina, Moriah received his BS in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from North Carolina State University and his MS in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Aquaculture through the Deer Ecology and Management Lab at Mississippi State University. His master's thesis examined the effects of prescribed fire and deer on acorn survival and plant communities. Moriah's professional work experience is diverse. It includes research and extension positions on warm season grass management, waterfowl banding, Bachman's sparrows, impacts of trail construction on wildlife, and various aspects of deer ecology. He was the social media manager for the MSU Deer Lab during his master's research, and for the past three months, he was a habitat technician for Purdue University's Integrated Deer Management project.
Moriah brings a passion for the interrelationships of habitat management, plant communities, and wildlife populations - he continues to participate in managing the family farm in Elkin, NC. He also has a strong appreciation for outreach, education, and communication. He is a frequent contributor to the Quality Deer Management Association and Quality Whitetails and also co-founded "Hunt The Land", a website, blog, and podcast on habitat management, bowhunting, and white-tailed deer. Moriah is an avid deer hunter and enjoys shed hunting, hiking, foraging, reading, and writing in his free time.
Here is Moriah's contact info and he is copied here as well.

You know this guy is one tough SOB with parents naming him Moriah.
Moriah is a place name derived from the Bible; it's the mountain where Abraham offered his son Isaac as a sacrifice to God (Genesis 22:2). ... In reference to the Temple location, others conjecture Moriah means “teaching place” or “place of worship”
Let's hope we are blessed with better deer!
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!? Now you gonna die!" - Johnny Cash A Boy Named Sue

To be fair I was familiar with Moriah and some of the stuff he did prior to this...little shocked as let's be honest he is YOUNG in this line of work. However, Joe is on staff and Moriah has already confirmed is going to be a large source of assistance as he takes over this role.

I checked him out and with his education and QDMA knowledge is more than there, handling the politics of the job is another matter. Wish him nothing but the best and I am looking forward to big things from him moving forward.

As long as he doesn't start pushing for "trophy state" type of requirements, he should do just fine.

As long as he doesn't start pushing for "trophy state" type of requirements, he should do just fine. I am sure he will do what public input allows... I doubt we go backwards in any type of Deer management!

The biggest risk for this guy is retention. If he is looking for a dream job not sure IDNR is a final resting point for him.
But maybe he will find a wife here or really like Bloomington area or IDNR decides to pay competitive wages finally.
Welcome aboard!

The name Moriah is also the name of a very famous cemetery.
Mount Moriah Cemetery on Mount Moriah in Deadwood, Lawrence County, South Dakota is the burial place of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock and other notable figures of the Wild West. By tradition, the American flag flies over the cemetery 24 hours a day, rather than merely from sunrise to sunset.
I wish him the best but........ I think Indiana is only a stepping stone in his career path.
