What is the best solvent to soak an inline breech plug in to get all of the powder residue out?
Thanks.

I use an old toothbrush, and soap and water. I also use white lithium grease on the threads before reinstalling it.

Mercury outboard engine cleaner. It comes in a blue and black can and works great.

I use Real Black Powder and nothing works well as warm water and soap.

Hoppes #9 works good to clean out primer residue. Just soak it over night and use a drill bit by hand and it will clean right up. h.h.

What about Brake Cleaner?

What about Brake Cleaner? Shawn I've heard brake cleaner works although i've never used it. I just soak in hot soapy water and wipe off the stuff with a paper towel. Then I use a drill bit to drill the residue out of the hole. It's a lot easier when it's soft.

I use T/C #13 for the breech plug. I take the plug out very first thing and put it in a film canister with enough solvent to cover it. By the time I'm finished with the rest of the cleaning the residue is usually loose enough to come off in one swipe. I use 777 though, that could make a difference.

I'm another advocate of Real BP, so cleaning residue is water simple.
Denatured Alcohol works well too.
I don't really like petroleum based solvents - though I understand Hoppe's BP works well even with subs.
Really though, where are you getting fouling issues? If you are seeing a lot of crud in the threads, I'd be worried.

Just wanting to get the inside of the breech plug cleaned out just as good as I get the barrel. I do not have any problems with crud in the threads.
I just like to have every piece on my weapons cleaned the very best I can get them. Some what of a perfectionist.....

Ahhh, You can wrap a little copper wool around a Q tip head if you get some stubborn residue on the inside of the plug. I use a needle to clean out the flash hole.
