I'm done with in-person shopping whenever possible.
My laptop crapped out and my iPad isn't far behind. I went to Best Buy and asked for some economical options. The store had NOTHING in stock under $699. I went to the truck and ordered a new HP from Amazon for $310.
I then went to Bass Pro for some field points and possibly an entry level crossbow for my daughter. No bows under $500 and only one box of 150g points. I went to the truck and ordered the 100g points I need from Amazon. I'm still pondering what crossbow to buy. I'm all about buying quality. But, with not knowing how much dedication she will put in, I'd rather buy a cheapie and pass it on if she is truly interested.
I just find it aggravating to NOT be able to confidently walk into a retail establishment with the expectation of leaving with what I want. I don't like Bezos any more than the rest of you, but I'll spend my money where it's promptly accepted.

But sadly, as you stated, oftentimes, the local folks don`t have what we need or want. I intend to still, always make the effort to buy locally, especially if it`s a small business, but sometimes, it`s not feasible. If you`re buying from Amazon, at least use Amazon Smile, and choose a favorite charity to have a donation go to. I have Gun Owners of America designated as my charity, and it isn`t much per purchase, but they sure do add up.

I wouldn't consider Best Buy or Bass Pro "local" anyway.

I bought a Center Point Patriot 415 from Walmart for under $400 and it came with the cocking crank in the box and its 200# pull and the handle can go on either side.

I do my grocery shopping at Walmart on-line now. I figure if they only have 1-2 registers open and want me to stand in line for 15-20 minutes, or use self checkout without a discount, then they can do the shopping for me for no extra cost.
They peed me off the last few times there, only having one door open, and with the check-out registers open by the door that you can't (or aren't supposed to) exit.

I hate shopping in stores with few exceptions. There is no competing with online...so long you know what you need. My guess is that most places will be lean on inventory

Walmart or Kroger’s pickup for groceries and amazon for just about everything else. We hardly enter any stores. IGA for things we forgot grocery. Online usually beats any in store prices.

I much prefer to purchase online, however, I try to avoid amazon at all costs and instead, order directly from the manufacturer. It is usually the same price and my money/business isn't going through a middle man. Just my two cents.

I have no issues buying on line except buying footwear or almost any hunting clothes. This stuff HAS to fit and be comfortable.
