I just ordered some .45 Extreme Elite 360 grain for .50 Caliber bullets, and am in need of some smokeless load data. I currently shoot IMR 4227 at 46.5 grains with a 250 grain XTP. I would like to keep shooting the 4227 if at all possible. I have had good accuracy with the XTP, I'm just looking for a little more "knock down" power. The buck I shot last year, the bullet went thru one shoulder and didn't exit the other side at 60 +/- yards. I would like to shoot thru deer, or maybe even knock them down. ;D Thanks in advance! Here's where I bought my bullets. They come with a free bullet pusher. www.bpbullets.com/Savage%20Model%2010ML%20II.html

Well, a 360 grain slug should have plenty of punch as far as knock down power. Thats getting into sledge hammer weight! Loads for the Smith and Wesson .460 XVR look close. There is data there for a 360 grain slug. Reduce your load and work up the data. www.gunblast.com/SW460XVR.htm

decatur-if you pm IndianaHunter, he can give you loads of data on smokeless powder. I met him at the Marion County Conservation club while sighting in my muzzleloader, and he has a lot of experience with the Savage and smokeless.
I believe he is one who is more than happy to assist folks.

Dec, Ive been shooting these guns for over 6 years now and the powder you are shooting is not even recommended bu savage any more. its hard to ignite and has a tendency to miss fire in cold weather. there are much better powders available like IMR4759 (41-46grns), Vv N110 (40-45grns) and Accurate Arms XMP5744(41-48grns). I would use 5744 with all lead bullets and keep them under 2100 fps. We have found that you will get miss fires sometimes trying to go fast with lead bullets. .452 bullets work the best in the Savage. The Savage was made to shoot 300 grain bullets. A very good load would be .452 300 XTP in a MMP sabot with 45 grains of AA5744 and use either CCI 209 M or Fed 209 A primers. Do a high center of the shoulder shot and you will drop every deer straight to the ground and never have to worry about a miss fire. You can get AA 5744 at Gander Mountain in Ft Wayne. Here is a link to a talk site that i help moderate that is dedicated to the Savage muzzle loader. h.h. dougva.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=Savage

I recieved my bullets already. They came fast! They were well packaged, and I weighed 6 of them they were only off +/- 1 grain from bullet to bullet! If they shoot well in my rifle I'll be buying more.

Those will shoot well with 68 to 70 grains of AA-2015 but it will kick a bit RL-7 is also a good powder for those as well....
