Any of you guys have or shoot cap and ball pistols. I'm in the process of getting my first one and they look likes lots of fun. Any info appreciated. Also I like the open top Colt designs like the 1860 but the more I look at the Remington 1858 I like them to.

I've got a .44 cal. model 1860 reproduction. I've had it for a long time, but I've never gotten around to shooting it. I don't know enough about them, other than they can "chain fire" if you don't take care.

The Ruger Old Army models are good shooters.

I've been doing ALOT of reading about them, paper cartridges, etc, etc, and from what I gather the main culprit of chain fires is not the front of the cylinder but the rear of the cylinder due to loose caps on the nipples or shooting without a cap on one of the nipples etc, etc. I cant wait to get my hands on one of those 1860 Army's when I get enough cash. Of course I plan on casting my own round balls and making my own felt lubed wads
