Ok while the weather is still decent i was planning on getting my muzzleloader sighted in, I put a new scope on it this year 3x9 variable, and i was thinking about messing around with the loads, pellets or loose 150 grains of powder. But do you sight the to be right on at 100 yards or 50 how do you sight yours in???

I sight mine in 1" high at 50 yards. I can aim dead on out to about 150 yards. Plenty for where I hunt. I have see thru rings, which I don't like from a long range accuracy standpoint, but I love being able to use my iron sights if a deer comes in at less than 20 yards. I sight my irons in for 20 yards.

I shoot the Savage smokeless powder muzzleloader and mine is sighted at 1/2" high @ 100 yds. It can shoot out to 200 yds holding dead on. Most like to sight theirs in between 1-2" high @ 100 yds.

I sight each gun differently depending on what I'm doing with it.
Open sighted rifles - dead on at 75 yds.
Scoped rifles with normal power loads - dead on at 100
My Omega - 3" high at 100 yds for 7" drop at 200. It uses a stout load.
Other rifles vary depending on purpose. I've got a .45 I'm planning on sighting in at 30 yds for small game.
My ML pistol with scope is sighted in dead on at 50 yds.
I've played with a great many different sighting setups. All of them work if you set your gun for your hunting area.
My technique is to zero a gun at 100 yds and using a large target shoot groups at various ranges. I use 50, 100, 150, 200. Then knowing this I can adjust the 100 yd zero till it's right for the load and for how I'm using it. If I don't expect a shot to 200 then I don't shoot that group. Usually a 100 yd zero will do well out to 150 with little difference in hold. It is a good idea to shoot that 150 yd group if that is a possible shot.

1" to 2" high at 100 yards. w/ 110 gr. of 777 pushing a 250 gr. Barnes .50 cal. MZ bullet. T/C Encore and 3x9 Leupold scope. It whacks 'em, stacks 'em and packs 'em!

Daworz, Good to hear from you. 150 grains of loose is alot of juice. If you're using pryodex I would use anything over 110 grains. 150 in pellets is okay in some ML's. You should really shoot some different loads and compare what shoots best. Once I took up ML hunting 8 years ago I have never switched back to my shotgun. Good luck this year and I hope you get a monster.

I like hunting the thick stuff, so I zero at 50 yrds. I just hold over for the longer shots.
