The best way to avoid a negative experience with a law enforcement officer is to NOT BREAK THE LAW! If you do happen to BREAK THE LAW or are suspected to have done so, comply with law enforcement and you have an overwhelming chance of due process.
We never hear this from the media, celebrities, athletes, “community leaders” (self-appointed title), politicians, etc. I don’t consider myself any more intelligent than the next guy, but this seems fairly straight forward to me. The headline on all of the Louisville TV stations’ sites this morning is about the city council recommending that the police change their use of force policies. Why not recommend that some folks in the public change THEIR behavior and some parents actually raise THEIR children to obey the law and the authorities? To me, it’s just like schools and teachers always being blamed for poor performing students. Sure, there are some bad teachers who are in the profession for the wrong reasons, but the majority have sincere intentions and do their best. But, they only have students for a few hours a day. It’s on the parents after that. Homework, studying, nutrition, behavior, sleep, etc. I could go on and on.
When was the last time a person of any color or ethnicity was shot by a cop, but was not committing a crime, resisting, evading, etc? There have been some details “leaked” about the Breonna Taylor fiasco that have even her lawyer backtracking a bit. The guy in WI was resisting arrest, had an active warrant, and now they are saying that there was a knife in the car that he was reaching into. Michael Brown shoplifted, evaded, and assaulted an officer. George Floyd was a career criminal, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and high on meth. This storyline never ends.

I would only add to that: if you can't live in a law and order society, and you're so dissatisfied here, your travel agent can accommodate you.

I just discovered what started the entire Jacob Blake fiasco. Blake apparently was breaking up a physical altercation between two women, and when police arrived and realized he had an active warrant for his arrest, they aimed to take him in. That's when Blake could be seen on the video, ignoring commands by police to stop, marching to his vehicle and reaching into the vehicle, presumably for the knife.
I'm just going to say, it doesn't matter your race or anything else, you disregard police commands to submit to them, and then reach into a vehicle, where police have no choice but to believe you're reaching for a weapon, and you WILL be shot. EVERYTIME. There's absolutely no issue with police defending themselves, the problem rests entirely with a culture and society that somehow believes there should be zero consequences for criminal, lawless behavior.

That's what I keep telling my Libertard friend. Do what the police say and you won't be shot/tased, etc. It's as simple as that. Now why this isn't being mentioned by the media is beyond me.

I thought 7 shots was a bit excessive but I was not there. He probably did not go down until hit in the spine. I reached for my registration in the glovebox during a traffic stop. I can guarantee I will not do that again.

I can guarantee I will not do that again. 4-5 years ago I was pulled over in Arkansas for going too slow. (I didn't know where the construction zone ended and since my radar detector was screaming at me, and I saw him parked there I didn't want to blow by him.) When he asked for the registration I told him that it was in the center console but there was also a loaded 9mm in there before I opened it up. He said as long as I didn't grab the gun I was fine. (it was in a holster too) We ended up talking for about 15 minutes, then another trooper showed up that started bs'ing about fishing (I had my tackle box and a few fishing rods in the truck, and I had rolled down the rear windows in the truck 'cause they are tinted and I wanted him to easily see inside the truck). Then ANOTHER trooper started to pull up and they both said "We gotta go, that's the supervisor pulling up." LOL They both had ponds at home and when they found out what my business was they had questions.

I agree with everything you say to a point. Law enforcement officer asks me to do something, I will comply to a degree but I absolutely will not "SUBMIT" to any man. I know it's a play on words but I have a problem with the word. I think society got to the point we are with too many grown men willing to "submit". Comply yes, submit not going to happen.

I can guarantee I will not do that again. I read something just the other day that said that 50% of the shots fired miss their mark. Maybe due to all the adrenaline running though their blood. Some police are not in the best of shape. If you are overweight and get into a fight the adrenaline will start pouring into the blood. And many people who are high on drugs or adrenaline take more than one shot to stop especially if you only hit them in a non vital spot. People shot in the stomach are not put down. Shots to the arm won't stop some people. The first police comments on this shooting say that the Black guy had told police that he had a knife in his possession. So when the police lost sight of his hands when he ducked into the front seat of his vehicle the policeman shot him. He could have been reaching for a gun or a knife and threatened the life of the policeman who was at very close range. And like the OP said. If you comply with the police then you won't have to worry about getting shot.
I noticed that the guy's father is trying to incite a riot IMHO.

I'd like to see the results of a tox screen that should have been run on him.
