The only thing I wish was we could have delved deeper into a few things. Unpacking the statistical studies of harvest numbers is something I especially hope to do sometime in the future.
Also hope to discuss with PU about the integrated study here soon sometime as well.
There is never enough time to go as deep as I'd like however loved Joe willing to talk for nearly two hours on all things deer related.

So disappointing that hunters don’t take the time for the surveys. He talks that is absolutely huge information that Is gathered through these. 2000 turned in outta of 120000 is ridiculous For the after the hunt survey.

Agreed, I struggled not to blow up about it on the episode but have went there before. It sucks, plain and simple.

Then about 25-35% return them with 5-7k response!
Maybe they should mail out some surveys also.

It is the after the successful hunt surveys that have TERRIBLE response rate, the year end survey I believe Joe said they still have about that 30% response rate. I do wonder could they get more, by doing mailers to say any hunter over 50 years of age? Merely playing the odds, the older generation is more likely to do a paper one in some cases than a computer one. Doubt the government could do this though.

Mail is a problem. I know all three of my sons look at mail as a joke. They do all the communications electronically.
My 2nd son move out over a year ago and still has his mail going home. It is close if not 1000% junk mail. He drops by about every 2 or 3 weeks to throw away. There has been maybe one non junk mail to date.
So 30% might be a better response than it appears.
I would think a text or email per a response when they go online for game check and or for a license. By now DNR should have a good electronic database of contact information.

Honestly, on the survey front, I personally think an amazing incentive based way of getting responses (not sure if legal) would be to incorporate via our unique CID numbers a $1 discount off someone's license fees the next year.
Shoot up the cost of all licenses across the board a $1, then credit someone the next year a $1 off their licenses if they did the surveys.

How about this for an almost "old guy" solution to the electronic problem.?
When you go through the process the system automatically sends you to the survey before it gives you your confirmation number. Have a pop-up ask the question "Would you like to complete your after hunt survey now, or would like a reminder email to complete it later?
If now, go to the survey. If later, tell them an email has been sent to them with their confirmation number that includes a link to the after hunt survey (the same email as now). Then the system would show the confirmation number.

Or just have a handful of questions in part of the checkin process!
I all reality the deer herd can be managed without a survey every time you checkin a deer.... it was done for many years that way...Sure it helps!
