Well, I am very glad I am not the only one who doesn't understand it.
Reading it, it sounds like they just passed a resolution saying being black is a health crisis.
Poor people in general had less access to healthcare, have underlying health issues, have transportation difficulties, and apparently live in food deserts, not just black people.
Food deserts, what? If I understand correctly, it's any area that doesn't have fresh food within 1 mile. What exactly do they consider fresh food? Is it just grocery stores? Does restaurants count? Does the available groceries in convince stores qualify? And why does that definition only work in urban areas?
I'm struggling to figure out what is worse: not liking someone because of the color of their skin or thinking so little of someone because of the color of their skin that you believe their only chance for survival is living off your handouts?

You can't keep giving people fish.... You do, and sooner or later the lake runs out of fish....then what?

This is interesting: WHEREAS, the American College of Physicians has found that African-Americans in particular are at risk of being subjected to discrimination and violence against them because of their race, endangering them and even costing them their lives;
Don't they teach that we all come from Africa. Lucy. I thought Cincy was bad, but it's taking back seat.

it's another one of those useless "Feel Good" resolutions to appease the voter base by our city council---bet most of those members who sponsored it represent "food desert" districts. Makes good press in an election year. the city doesn't have the money to make the massive investment it will take to turn those areas around. Areas mentioned have had crime problems and been slowly decaying for years and the only thing that can fix it is investment by developers, both residential and commercial, who are going elsewhere in the city right now.

Anyone see where the Governor of KY wants to give free Healthcare to ALL blacks in KY? So we try to end racism with a racists act? I read it. Basically he promised to get "every black or brown person in Kentucky" signed up for some sort of healthcare, by helping them get on one of the current systems. I am not against anybody having healthcare access, but the solutions that keep getting proposed do not solve the problem. Short fix, eliminate financial requirements for Medicare. Long fix, the government builds their own healthcare system to run beside private healthcare. Both fixes need to crack down heavily on the price gouging.

What the Gov of Kentucky wants to do is push for getting more blacks to enroll in existing opportunities. Some cost a good bit, some are cheap and some are no-cost. He should push for everyone to use available opportunities, not just blacks.
Funny, when Obamacare first came out, tons of people in Kentucky said, more or less,"I ain't signing up for that s***, no way".
So Kentucky just changed the name, to Kynect I think, and people signed up in droves.
One way or another, get the massive profits out of health care and the cost will come down to much more affordable. I dont mean a national health care system, or "free", I mean not-for-profits.
Some employers and unions do this now. My last employer had a non-profit health care trust for their people. It was great coverage and very low-cost.

I've been at a loss recently to figure out where all this health care is to be found. Last time I read an overview of the number of doctors and nurses currently employed states that we are somewhere around 30,000 short of doctors, 50,000 nurses. In some areas aging doctors are retiring with no replacements, seems the same problem occurs with nurses. A good while back I saw what one Democratic politician in DC suggested that a law should be enacted wherein all doctors and nurses should be considered essential personnel and inducted into a Federal organization [much like being drafted into the military] and could not retire nor quit without permission. Others have come forward to have the Federal 'guvmint pay for all the cost of sending tens thousands of people to Medical schools. Having spent my time in the military [combat zone also], I can speak from experience that this would result in that you could see a doctor when you got permission, and get treated if they were in the mood to do so. Others will say that got excellent treatment while under Federal health, and others have a different opinion, so your YMMV.
