Yeah he is pretty slow now, overweight, and deaf we Love him. Sounds like a description of me. Mine started limping and barely moving and I thought I was gonna have to have him put down so I started adding turmeric powder to his dog food. Just a few shakes in his dog food.Within a week he was running around like a puppy again. It’s still hard to believe the change.

So far, Gunner (new name) is a good dog. Minds well for a puppy and is permanently attached to my side. We have a Gunner as well. The look he's giving you is telling me that he's saying "That was NOT me! What the heck did you eat for dinner???"

I didn't see where I ever posted about it, but things didn't work out with Gunner and he went back to the rescue. I had given up on getting another dog till my wife brought it up again. We looked at several and most were gone before we could call about them. We finally agreed on Bruce (Bruce Wayne was his given name at the shelter). I'm sure he is a mix but predominately German Shorthair. He points, good instincts, is taking to commands and whistle training well. I've even whistled him off when he got locked on something. He has been great with the kids and cats. He does have heart worms, but the shelter is paying for that. For only being here a week, he is a smart dog. I'll likely waste him on antler sheds, but I just don't bird hunt enough to train him on it.

That's a long time. I cried like a baby when we lost our last one. Remember the good times!

You start him on sheds yet? How's the heartworm thing doing?

You start him on sheds yet? How's the heartworm thing doing? No. We're still working on the everyday house dog stuff and walking better on a leash. It was a real challenge teaching him to sit. He has one more month of a topical treatment before he starts antibiotics and then the shots. He's supposed to be restricted to walking only in that time so we're going to focus heavily on that stuff and then get into sheds.

He appears to be a LUCKY DOG.
BTW there's a nice looking shed right there in the neighbors yard.

Today, Bruce had his first Injection to kill off the adult heartworms.
Now we have 10 weeks of no running, jumping, aggressive playing, or long walks. Even in the yard he is leashed now.
This will thoroughly test my sanity.
I've purposely neglected a lot of basic training since we got him, hoping the mental work will help out now.
