We hunted last weekend for youth season. We had a couple close calls but were just not where we needed to be. Before leaving on Sunday I moved my mobile hay bale blind to “ the spot”. Fast forward to this morning and we were setup well before daylight. Around 10 minutes to shooting time the began gobbling in every direction. I could actually see one on the limb fairly close by. Shortly after daybreak I could see several birds heading towards us only to have them meet on the other side of the small wood patch where we had been last weekend 🙄. It sounded like their was a dozen of them as they moved away. About an hour later here they came around the small set of woods. Sure enough 11 Toms and 8 hens. Separated into two groups but still close. They stayed in that general area for the next 6+ hours. We were stuck. My daughter soon found herself sitting on the carpeted floor of the blind draining the battery of my phone to nearly dead. Periodically she would be interrupted by me to get her ready only to have them group up again or a small rationing of snacks. Finally around 2ish they began to disperse. Eventually leaving a group of 4 long beards in the area. It was like a light switch went on because even though I had the hen decoy out and the calls a calling all day to no avail, here they came. They surrounded the decoy on every side. She was frazzled but I said slow down pick the first one you can and squeeze. The bolt met its mark and he expired 10 yards away. Couldn’t be more proud of her for sticking it out and getting it done. 25 lbs. 9-3/4” beard. 1-1/8” spurs imgur.com/a/pT6Qffs

That's awesome! As a father of two daughters, I love seeing girls get interested in hunting and fishing. Try as I might, mine haven't really embraced it yet, but maybe that'll change someday. huntnandplumbn Are you still down around the Mitchell area?

The older one is attached to my hip the other is pretty and pink like her momma. Maybe some day she will come around to it. She does like to fish so that’s a good start and I’ll take what I can get. I’m up in Lake County. Hunt mostly Pulaski County with some other spots closer to home.

That is awesome, and great to see the little lady hunting. I say hunting is one of the best things a kid could do as it teaches them so many things about life just being in the woods and fields.
