Depending on how big they are, a dibble bar won't be big enough. I've picked up trees in the years past that were 3 feet tall.........

The spruce I’m planting in clusters to give deer a place to hide in during bad weather or if they fill pressure during hunting season

Good job ! I've planted around 40,000 trees on our place. You lose a lot of them to deer browsing, etc. but a whole lot more of them survive. Once they get rooted in good after 2-3 years they really start taking off.

My trees are ready, but I haven't gone to pick them up with the stay in place order and such. Hopefully, things open up some before it's too late to plant or past when the nursery will hold them for me.
On the plus side, I just learned about a Dibble bar reading this thread, which looks like the ticket.

Call them they will put them on the front porch at the nursery so you don’t even have to see anybody that’s what I did. They also told me to call them when I got there they would load them for me and I’d never have to get out of the truck this was the nursery up north

Once they get rooted in good after 2-3 years they really start taking off. I’d say I’m close to or over that between my house and moms but a lot of those we did with a tractor at the beginning. Dad made a crude planter out of a old disk but it worked good. Mostly I’m replacing trees that died or got destroyed by deer overtime

I believe the state produces some quality trees at a very low cost for us. My only complaint with them is I wish they’re sell them in 25 or 50 bundles in my situation a 100 is a drop in the bucket when you figure 600 to 800 a acre but I think if they’d sell smaller packages they’d sell more to the guys with 2 or 3 acres that want different kinds to mix them up.
I know it would cost a bit more for labor and packing them but I don’t think they would have a big issue selling them. They sell some wildlife packages but they have hawthorns in them me personally I don’t want a tree that’s going to take a eye out every time you get close
