Watch out.... your be labeled a Trophy Hunter 🙄 As 90% or more actually are! I assume you were referring to me? I have no problem with trophy hunters, just like I have no problem with meat hunters. As long as it's legal, more power to you. I just don't want either group telling me what equipment I have to use, and what I should kill. I'm a deer hunter...Nothing more, nothing less.

I prefer to shoot 1.5 yr old does. 90% grown and still very tender.

I agree...... but sometimes others want to label or look down on others if it’s not THEIR WAY.

Yes. Exactly. Every hunter, who hunts ethically and legally ought to be free to kill whatever makes them happy, without ridicule from anyone else. Likewise, those who choose to try to not shoot button bucks should be free from attack and belittlement. It`s really easy to get along doso long as no one tries to push their agenda on anyone else.

If deer didn't taste so good I wouldn't hunt them

I'm glad more hunters are wising up and passing the 1.5 yr olds and the baby buttons ...with all the deer Ive killed, I no longer see the need to shoot the smaller bucks as I did when I was younger... if I want meat, I'll take a 1.5 yr old doe or older ... I'll always try to take the doe first before the rut kicks in, then I can be picky on the Buck I kill ... sometimes easier said than done, and the last few seasons, I havnt taken a Doe till Dec. .. esp. that now all I hunt is state lands and I only BOWhunt ..

We will not tolerate criticism of others choices when hunting. Don’t let it go there

Some of the 1.5+ year old does have turned out to be BB......... The way I look at it, meat is meat, and I'm looking for the biggest bang for the boom. LOL I shot a BB that yielded 60# of boneless meat and that was without part of the offside shoulder. I probably should have saved the jaw to age it, but I if it was a 9 month old deer it would have been a whopper.

A yearling is an animal between its 1st and 2nd birthdays. We say yearling deer are 1½ years old because that's their approximate age during hunting season.
A fawn is under 1 year of age.
I grew up hearing "yearling" used in fall to refer to fawns, but they're not the same.
All button bucks are fawns.

Years ago I shot a "sizable doe" that turned out was a very short spike and was legal to tag as antlerless because the spikes were right at 2 inches. Biologist at the check station aged him at 2 1/2.

A Spike and a BB are two different aged deer...but for a INDIANA checkin they are the same.

Weird things happen on occasion. I do think that a 3 year old button buck is a whole lot more likely than a 180 lb fawn!
