I heard this morning that we did have a tornado go through Saturday night, an F0. Over 200 plus trees down with damage from the trees. Our power went out just before 10pm Saturday and back on Sunday just before 10am. At the beginning of our private drive a huge white pine broke in half and took out the electric and cable lines. I have a generator out in the new barn, but it is not hooked up yet. Needed about two more weeks to get it on-line. It is in place, but still need to set up the exhaust to the outside. Didn't expect spring storms in the middle of winter. Crazy warn winter so far. Generator moving to priority #1.

Wow, it`s hard to be without power for even a few hours, much less 12. That`s pretty brutal, so sorry to hear about that for you.

Since it was late evening on Saturday (10pm) and it was in the low 60's outside it was not that bad. Once we confirmed tree down it was time for bed. House only dropped to 65 so not that cool. I do heat my house with propane and in the basement have a propane fire place if needed for heat. I'm thinking of buying a dual power generator this year and tie it to my 500 gallon propane tank. That would be the way to go. I need to calculate my true amp draw.

I loose power several times a year, last time was during a good ice storm and we went almost 36 hours without power. We borrowed a generator to keep the fridge and freezer running and to provide a single light and the means to distribute some heat. The wife complained about the house being too cold even with the one heater running...so brought in my turbo burner and we got things good and warm in about 30 minutes! We closed up the house as best we could and everybody stayed in the main living area. I have since gone out and bought my own generator.....never had gas in it yet (knock on wood).

That would be the way to go. I need to calculate my true amp draw. When Mom & Dad first moved in, power was going out a lot, so they had a slab poured, and had a 17kW genset installed - whole house auto on, auto run once a week to keep the battery charged I guess. It runs on propane because that is what is used to heat their house, they have two 1,000 gal tanks there. We change oil in it once a year, and the old oil looks like the new oil.
