I checked my trail camera today and saw 2 bucks that already shed their antlers. I got some pictures of some nice ones still packing headgear. I hope they are on my property when they lose them.

Today while scouting, buddy and I saw two deer that were bumped up by rabbit hunters. One looked like a big doe and the other had a 6 inch spike on the left and a 2 in on the right. I encountered that buck half a dozen times and he was always with a larger bodied spike. Im thinking it was that buck but he had dropped antlers.
No evidence to suggest otherwise but it wouldnt be unheard of for younger bucks to start shedding down here. As of January 1st, my (new #1) buck was alive and still holding.
ETA: after obsessing over trail cam pics ive decided my new #1 is my old #1. Guess he added a point from my last velvet pic.

saw one yesterday morning that had dropped both sides, think it was the year old 8 point that has a lot of potential. Probably run himself ragged chasing yearlings the last month. Normally they hold on until March or April around here.

A friend of mines wife got him a SpyPoint camera for Christmas. Since he primarily hunts public ground he didn't want to set it up there. He asked me set it up at my place so he could see how it worked. He had received good pictures immediately including one shed buck.

I am SOOO glad I happened on here today. I saw this thread just in time. I plan to walk my 50 acres on Saturday.
I was debating going or not, to do some brush work, but if antlers are dropping, I'm going.

Don't laugh at me, but I've never taken the opportunity to shed hunt. I guess if your hunting public ground it might be a wise idea to do so. I reckon it would give a feller some sort of idea what's moving around and a possible size reference.

Just remember, where a buck sheds in february or march, doesnt necessarily mean thats where he will be in october. Some poor guy learned that lesson the hard way this year, he didnt see that buck a single time. We saw him 3 or 4 times spending his daylight hours a mile from where he shed

I didn't think that through 😆. Keep Out and No Trespassing signs have no meaning to deer 😆.
