I decided to go for a walk yesterday to check cameras and get some exercise. I won't be hunting for at least a week, so I was not concerned with leaving scent. My first stop was at my best and favorite camera. Gone! I still can't believe it. I'm the ONLY one with hunting permission and keep an eye on the place. I know it wasn't the landowner since he is my employer. Oh well, considering how many years I have been running several cameras unsecured, it was going to happen eventually.

Bummer. A trespasser and thief.

The trespasser probably realized he was caught on camera so he knew he had to steal it as to not get caught. I would suppose this is the biggest reason for cameras getting stolen.

I bet a lot of those happen when somebody trespassing sees the camera and doesn't want it known, though the motivation hardly matters as the result is the same. If I had the money ( I don't ) I would hide a second camera watching the obvious ones. Sorry it happened!

I hate to hear that, and its a shame we cannot have the expectation of privacy and security on private land. If you want to keep something, better lock it up.

I'm sorry to hear that. A few years ago I had a real nice non typical buck about one step from getting an arrow through its vitals when it stopped and turned around. It was the Sunday before firearm season opened. I laid off the property and didn't go back until Saturday, only to find my stand and camera had been stolen. I never enjoyed hunting that location much after that.

If you want to try and catch the culprit, I have several old non working cameras you can use as "bait". Hide a good camera pointing at the dummy can and get pictures of them. They say a thief will always return to the scene of the crime. You can have one if you want it.

Would love to have a cam or two, but this is the reason that I won't drop the cash on 'em.

I've got a buddy that gave me an old broken camera looks pristine but the river got into it this winter I plan on putting it up and then having about to other cameras hidden very well spying on it no excuse for a thief

I have had so many trespassing cases, but been blessed the cameras have been unnoticed or left alone. Actually just had a guy in October (just found from a pull) that located the camera and left it untouched. He will be getting handled very differently in our discussions about trespassing. I have zero patience for trespassing, but he will get a thank you for respecting my possessions on the property by leaving the camera. I would bet he is merely waiting for me to get in touch with him...given the way he exited I am betting he is the new neighbor.
I had 3 other idiots walking around October 19th all over and once identities are learned they will 100% be visited by the cops, unlike the other guy the proceeded to walk all over past trespassing signs and everything. A few pictures has them and the private property signs in them!
This next year I'll be doing 4x4 posts with metal signs at each "normal" entrance/exit to the property....dummy cameras hung right on them as well with a high hidden one watching. I have no trespassing signs everywhere and purple paint applied....this next year I'll be re hanging signs high enough you have to have a section of sticks or ladder to reach...re painting with purple but also going to use orange as well. Between all that I bet I drop another $200-$300 in just merely posts, signs and paint for IDIOTS.....so frustrating.

Sadly unless you can prove the folks took something, our county prosecutor is a pushover. They'll site them with an official warning and if they step foot again they'll be charged as a repeat offender. Essentially a firm slap on the wrist for first time.

The county prosecutor here is even worse. I was told I had to take out a restraining order on them to be able to prosecute them for the 2nd offense. If not, they'd do nothing.

Both prosecutors are wrong and going against the letter of the law.
That is how we got a new prosecutor.
The new one isn't perfect, but he will file charges on the first offense IF the landowner will sign the complaint paperwork.
